Vice Regal

Departure of the Governor-General Overseas and Assumption of the Administration of the Government

His Excellency the Governor-General, The Right Honourable Sir Michael Hardie Boys, G.N.Z.M., G.C.M.G., accompanied by Her Excellency Lady Hardie Boys, departed from New Zealand on Monday, 31 May 1999 at 4.15 p.m., on an official visit to Samoa and French Polynesia.

Following the departure of the Governor-General, the Chief Justice of New Zealand, The Honourable Sian Elias, has assumed the administration of the Government in accordance with Clause XII of the Letters Patent Constituting the Office of Governor-General.
