Assumption of the Office of Administrator of the Government by The Honourable Sian Seerpoohi Elias, Chief Justice of New Zealand

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second was graciously pleased, by Letters Patent passed under the Seal of New Zealand, and bearing date the 28th day of October 1983, to provide that, whenever the office of Governor-General is vacant or the holder of the office is for any reason unable to perform all or any functions of the office, those functions should be performed by the Chief Justice of New Zealand as Administrator of the Government:
And whereas His Excellency the Governor-General, The Right Honourable Sir Michael Hardie Boys, is absent from the seat of Government and unable to perform all the functions of the office of Governor-General:
Now, therefore, I, The Honourable Sian Seerpoohi Elias, Chief Justice of New Zealand, hereby proclaim and declare that, having taken, in the manner prescribed by the Letters Patent, the oaths prescribed by the Letters Patent, I have on the 31st day of May 1999 assumed office as Administrator of the Government.
Given under the hand of Her Excellency the Administrator of the Government, and issued under the Seal of New Zealand, this 31st day of May 1999.
