Bylaw Regulating the Speed of Vehicles on State Highways in Transit New Zealand Regions 3 and 4

Pursuant to section 61 (3) of the Transit New Zealand Act 1989, Transit New Zealand hereby makes the following bylaw:

  1. Title and commencement—This bylaw may be cited as the Transit New Zealand (Speed of Vehicles on State Highways) Bylaw 1999/10 and shall come into force 28 days after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. Interpretation—In this bylaw—

“vehicle” has the same meaning as in the Transport Act 1962.

  1. Limiting speed of vehicles on State highways—No person shall drive or take or permit to be driven or taken any vehicle—

(a) At a speed exceeding 60 kilometres per hour on the sections of State highway described in the First Schedule to this bylaw; or

(b) At a speed exceeding 80 kilometres per hour on the sections of State highway described in the Second Schedule to this bylaw.

First Schedule

  1. The section of State Highway No. 1 that is:

(a) At Hamilton, commencing at the intersection of Rotokauri Road (Route Position 452/5.61), proceeding in a generally south-easterly direction to a point (Route Position 459/0.82) located 160 metres south of Killarney Road; a distance of 3.73 kilometres.

(b) At Hamilton, commencing at a point (Route Position 459/1.72) 80 metres north of Kahikatea Drive, proceeding in a generally easterly direction to a point (Route Position 462/0.57) located 40 metres north-east of the intersection of Lorne Street and Normandy Avenue; a distance of 2.51 kilometres.

(c) At Hamilton, commencing at a point (Route Position 463/2.43) 180 metres west of Howell Avenue, proceeding in a generally easterly direction to the intersection with Riverlea Road (Route Position 467/0.57); a distance of 1.52 kilometres.

  1. The section of State Highway No. 3 that is:

(a) At Hamilton, commencing at the intersection with Kahikatea Drive (Route Position 0/0.0) proceeding in a generally southerly direction to the intersection with Resthill Crescent (Route Position 0/2.17); a distance of 2.17 kilometres.

(b) At Hamilton, on Normandy Avenue commencing at the intersection of Lorne Street and State Highway 3 on-ramp (Route Position 0/0.0), proceeding in a generally southerly direction to the intersection of Ohaupo Road and State Highway 3 on-ramp (Route Position 0/0.68); a distance of 680 metres.

  1. That section of State Highway No. 5 in Rotorua, commencing at the intersection with Barnard Road (Route Position 47/0.00) proceeding in a generally southerly direction to the intersection with Lake Road (Route Position 47/1.85); a distance of 1.85 kilometres.

  2. That section of State Highway No. 26 at Hamilton, commencing at the intersection of Cambridge Road (Route Position 0/0.0), proceeding in a generally easterly direction to a point (Route Position 0/0.72) located 270 metres north-east of Berkley Avenue; a distance of 720 metres.

  3. That section of State Highway No. 30 that is:

(a) At Rotorua commencing at a point (Route Position 144/0.72) 720 metres north-east of the intersection of Hemo Road and Old Taupo Road proceeding in a generally northerly direction to the Sala Street roundabout (Route Position 144/1.13); a distance of 410 metres.

(b) At Rotorua, commencing at the intersection with Tarawera Road (Route Position 147/1.05) proceeding in a northerly direction to a point (Route Position 147/4.19) located 90 metres north of Coulter Road; a distance of 3.14 kilometres.

Second Schedule

  1. The section of State Highway No. 1 that is:

(a) At Ohinewai from a point 380 metres north of the centreline of Tauhoa Road (Route Position 412/7.79) to a point (Route Position 412/8.91) 740 metres generally south of Tahuna Road; a distance of 1.12 kilometres.

(b) At Horotiu, commencing at a point (Route Position 442/6.02) 80 metres north of its junction with Horotiu Road and extending 790 metres generally in a southerly direction to a point (Route Position 442/6.81) 70 metres south of Horotiu Bridge Road; a distance of 790 metres.

(c) At Hamilton, commencing at a point (Route Position 452/1.82) 180 metres north of the Te Kowhai Road intersection extending in a southerly direction to Rotokauri Road (Route Position 452/5.61); a distance of 3.79 kilometres.

(d) At Hamilton, commencing at a point (Route Position 459/0.82) 160 metres south of Killarney Road proceeding in a southerly direction to a point (Route Position 459/1.72) located 80 metres north of Kahikatea Drive; a distance of 900 metres.

(e) At Hamilton, commencing at a point (Route Position 462/0.57) 40 metres north-east of Lorne Street and Normandy Avenue intersection proceeding in a generally easterly direction to a point (Route Position 463/2.43) located 180 metres west of Howell Avenue; a distance of 2.80 kilometres.

(f) At Hamilton commencing at Riverlea Road (Route Position 467/0.57) extending in a southerly direction to a point (Route Position 468/0.48) measured 170 metres north of Annebrook Road; a distance of 790 metres.

(g) At Cambridge from a point (Route Position 478/7.03) approximately 20 metres west of Dominion Avenue extending in a southerly direction to a point (Route Position 485/0.29) approximately 290 metres south of the intersection with Shakespeare Street; a distance of 470 metres.

(h) At Taupo from a point (Route Position 606/5.94) 500 metres north of the intersection with Huka Falls Loop Road at its southern junction with State Highway No. 1 extending in a generally southerly direction to a point (Route Position 606/7.33) 100 metres north of Norman Smith Street; a distance of 1.39 kilometres.

  1. The section of State Highway No. 2 that is:

(a) At Mangatawhiri from a point (Route Position 0/9.11) measured 150 metres west of Koheroa Road proceeding in a generally south-easterly direction to a point (Route Position 0/10.21) measured 150 metres east of McKenzie Road; a distance of 1.10 kilometres.

(b) At Te Puna from a point (Route Position 130/13.34) approximately 180 metres west of Loop Road.
