β¨ Referendum Order
3800 NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE No. 159
(Appointed Day) Order (No. 2) 1999 (Gaz. 1999, page 2073) is revoked.
MARIE SHROFF, Clerk of the Executive Council.
Explanatory Note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order appoints Saturday, 27 November 1999, as the day on which an indicative referendum is to be held under the Citizens Initiated Referenda Act 1993 on the following question:
Should there be a reform of our justice system placing greater emphasis on the needs of victims, providing restitution and compensation for them and imposing minimum sentences and hard labour for all serious violent offences?
That date is polling day for the 1999 general election, and the referendum will therefore be held in conjunction with the election.
This order revokes and replaces the Citizens Initiated Referendum (Appointed Day) Order (No. 2) 1999, which appointed Saturday, 18 December 1999, as the day on which this indicative referendum was to be held.
The referendum results from a petition promoted by Mr Norm Withers (which petition was presented to the House of Representatives on 13 July 1999 after it had been certified correct by the Clerk of the House of Representatives).
