(2) The frequencies available for use under this licence are those specified in the First Schedule to this notice.

(3) The maximum powers for transmission for available frequencies are those specified in the First Schedule to this notice.

(4) The technical conditions applying under this licence are those specified in the Second Schedule to this notice.

(5) Frequency use is on a shared basis and the Secretary does not accept liability under any circumstances for any loss or damage of any kind occasioned by the unavailability of frequencies or interference to reception.

(6) Should interference occur the Secretary reserves the right to require that any apparatus licensed herein change frequency or cease operation.

  1. Revocation of previous notices—The Radiocommunications (General Licence for Spread Spectrum Radio Apparatus) Notice 1999 dated 2 February 1999 is hereby revoked.

  2. Period of validity of Licence—This licence expires on the 31st day of January 2004.

Second Schedule

Technical conditions

Modulation: “Spread spectrum” technology including: direct sequence, frequency hopping, pulse FM (chirp) and time hopping techniques.

Emission Bandwidth: exceeding 0.5 MHz at 6dB*

Spurious Emissions: must not exceed 60 dBµV/m at 10 metres (-55 dBW e.i.r.p.)‡

† The maximum permissible peak power in any 3 kHz bandwidth within the occupied bandwidth is -15 dBW (measured with a spectrum analyser or test receiver with an IF bandwidth of 3 kHz and a video bandwidth of 100 kHz).

‡ Usage is restricted to automatic vehicle identification systems (AVIS).

  • Measured with a spectrum analyser or test receiver with an IF bandwidth of 30 kHz and a video bandwidth of 100 kHz.

§ Measured with a spectrum analyser or test receiver with a video bandwidth of 100 kHz or 1 MHz as applicable, a span of 100 MHz and a sweep time of 1 second.

Gain antennas can be used in all bands providing the transmitter power and antenna gain combined do not exceed the allowable effective isotropic radiated power (e.i.r.p.).

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This note prescribes that, pursuant to regulation 13 of the Radiocommunications (Radio) Regulations 1993, a general licence is granted in respect of the installation, operation and use of spread spectrum radio apparatus on the frequencies specified in this notice.
