Fisheries (Conversion Factors) Amendment Notice 1999 (F131)

Pursuant to section 3A (2) of the Fisheries Act 1983 and section 7 of the Constitution Act 1986, the Minister for Food, Fibre, Biosecurity and Border Control, acting after consultation with the Fishing Industry Board, gives the following notice.

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Conversion Factors) Amendment Notice 1999, and is part of the Fisheries (Conversion Factors) Notice 1996* ("the principal notice").

(2) This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

  1. Interpretation—Clause 2 of the principal notice is hereby amended:

(a) By inserting, after the definition of the term "skin-off fillets", the following definition—

"Skin-off trimmed fillets", in relation to southern blue whiting, means the state in which the flesh has been removed from either side of the body of the fish from immediately behind the pectoral fin to the tail, with all parts of the ventral or pelvic fin removed, and all parts of the pectoral fin removed, and all of the gut and black membrane removed from the flesh by trimming, and partial or complete removal of the belly flap and the flesh free of fins, bones and heavy bloodspots or bruises by trimming, and where the skin has been removed from the flesh.

(b) By inserting, after the definition of the term "skin-on untrimmed fillets", the following definition—

"Southern blue whiting mince, skin-off fillets" means the state in which the flesh has been removed from either side of the body of the fish from immediately behind the pectoral fin to the tail and where the skin has been removed from that flesh, and the skin-off fillets are rendered by a machine into a minced form.

  1. Conversion factors—(1) Part II of the Schedule of the principal notice is amended by revoking clause 18 and substituting the following clause:

  2. Southern blue whiting—(a) The conversion factor for dressed southern blue whiting (Micromesistius australis) is 1.70.

(b) The conversion factor for southern blue whiting mince, skin-off fillets is 3.65.

(c) The conversion factor for skin-off trimmed fillets for southern blue whiting is 3.25.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette, amends the Fisheries (Conversion Factors) Notice 1996 by introducing new conversion factors for southern blue whiting.

The changes are as follows:

(a) The new conversion factor for southern blue whiting mince, skin-off fillets is 3.65.

(b) The new conversion factor for southern blue whiting skin-off trimmed fillets is 3.25.

Food Act 1981

New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Mandatory Food Standard 1999, Amendment No. 1

Section 11L of the Food Act 1981

Amendment No. 1 to the New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Mandatory Food Standard 1999 ("the Standard"), was issued by the Minister of Health on 25 August 1999.

The Amendment updates the provisions for maximum residue limits (MRLs) of agricultural compounds contained within the Standard. Compliance with the provisions of the Amendment is mandatory.

Copies of the Standard and Amendment No. 1 to the Standard are available for inspection at the Ministry of Health, 133 Molesworth Street, Wellington, or can be purchased from any Bennetts Government Bookshop.

Amendment No. 1 to the Standard will come into force on the 28th day after the date of this notification.

Medical Practitioners Act 1995

Appointments to the Medical Council of New Zealand

Pursuant to the Medical Practitioners Act 1995, I reappoint

Professor Ian Simpson under section 124 (b)

and appoint

Mrs Heather Thomson under section 124 (d)

as members of the Medical Council of New Zealand for a term of office expiring on 30 June 2002.
