54 Port Hills

54 001 b,h Objection J Miller (Chairperson Banks Peninsula Electorate NZ National Party)
Similar to Objection 49/001.

Suggested solution Similar to Objection 49/001 and specifically seeking to add Banks Peninsula to the proposed Port Hills Electorate and exclude parts of Linwood and Woolston.

54 002 b,n,h Objection R Donald MP
Objects to the boundaries of the proposed Port Hills Electorate because they do not give due consideration to existing boundaries, communities of interest, facilities of communication, or the topographical features of Banks Peninsula and adjoining areas. There are no links between the Peninsula and an Ashburton based electorate.

Suggested solutions

  • Reinstate that portion of the Peninsula which has been cut off from the Port Hills Electorate.
  • Return the parts of Linwood and Woolston, added to the proposed Port Hills Electorate, to Christchurch Central.
  • Rename Port Hills, Banks Peninsula.
  • Add Waltham to the new Banks Peninsula by extending the boundary along Ferry Road from Ensors Road to Moorhouse Avenue and from there along Waltham Road to the Heathcote River.
  • To accommodate the latter, the boundary in Hoon Hay be shifted from Mathers Road to Sparks Road and Victors Road.
  • Make the most of the 5% tolerance in making these moves but if Rakaia needs additional people then incorporating the Oxford area into the proposed Rakaia Electorate could be explored.
