✨ Electoral Objections

8 MAY NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE 1457

due consideration to the community of interest. The school has been removed from the electorate that all schools they regularly associate with are in, where schools have similar problems associated with the population growth in the area, where most services are required, in which the tribal basis of any Maori students attending associate, and because Te Ranga School has no day to day contact with any schools in the Rotorua Electorate because of the distance and geographical boundaries.

Suggested solution The boundary between the proposed Bay of Plenty and Rotorua Electorates should reflect the associated community of interest naturally imparted by the geographical barriers of the Mangarewa River and Pyces Pa Road south of the Upper Rangiuru , Te Matai and No. 2 Road areas.

28 018 b,h Objection W A Cleghorn

Objects to proposed boundaries not giving sufficient recognition to the existing electoral boundaries, not adequately recognising community of interest, not giving sufficient weight to facilities of communication, failing to account for the impact of topographical features, making insufficient use of the provisions of section 36 of the Electoral Act 1993 in regard to the adjustment of quota of the general electoral population. Objection is supported by copies of letters from 3 others.

Suggested solutions That either the population within the Ngakuru, Waikite, Upper Atiamuri area of an estimated 1,400 persons be retained within the Rotorua Electorate or that the population of Ngakuru, Waikite, Upper Atiamuri and Reporoa and Broadlands totalling 2,934 persons be retained within the Rotorua Electorate. Suggested solution also impacts on the proposed Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo Electorates.

28 019 b Objection L & D Whittle

Similar to Objection 28/004 with respect to No. 4 Road, RD 3, Te Puke.

Suggested solution Move the boundary south to enable the natural inclusion of Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 Roads into the Te Puke Town Catchment. Maybe the area of Edgecumbe Town would be more appropriate with the proposed Rotorua Electorate.

28 020 b Objection J A & J Powdrell

Objects to the proposed electorate in that it does not give due consideration to the community of interest and does not follow logical community and topographical boundaries within the region. Rural properties south of Te Puke, and Rangiuru specifically, rely almost entirely on Te Puke and Tauranga for business and service facilities and geographically is logically part of the Bay of Plenty area and Electorate.

Suggested solution That the Rangiuru area be included in the proposed Bay of Plenty Electorate.
