(a) On each deer, other than fallow, slaughtered in deer slaughtering premises, per kilogram hot clean carcase weight after removal of condemned parts:

22 cents.

(b) On each fallow deer slaughtered in deer slaughtering premises, per kilogram hot clean carcase weight after removal of condemned parts:

15 cents.

(c) On each killed game deer carcase received at a game packing house, zero cents per kilogram cold clean carcase weight after removal of condemned parts.

(d) On each piece of antler from fallow deer received at a game packing house for processing or packing per kilogram green weight:

70 cents.

$2.20.

1.2 No levy will be payable when the value of the velvet grade, as defined by the Industry Agreed Grading Guidelines, is less than or equal to $15/kg (G.S.T. exclusive).

1.3 If, in breach of the statutory obligation to keep adequate records the board levy, at the rates set out above, will be assessed by the Game Industry Board with reference to such information as the Game Industry Board considers fit.

  1. An Animal Health levy will be collected by DSP’s and velvet processors and is incorporated into the levy structure as outlined above. The levy will be broken down as follows:

2.1 GIB levy:

  • venison (fallow) 12 cents per kg.
  • venison (other) 19 cents per kg.
  • velvet (fallow) $0.50 per kg.
  • velvet (other) $2.00 per kg.

2.2 Animal Health levy:

  • venison 3 cents per kg.
  • velvet 20 cents per kg.
  1. Companies will not be required to collect levies on Tb reactors but will be required to report the number of reactor deer slaughtered to the GIB in their monthly returns. The levy will be waived for those Tb reactors which are identified with an official MAF reactor tag and where they arrive at the DSP accompanied by an official MAF permit to move.

  2. A nil rate of levy will apply to any farmed deer or killed game deer carcasses which are wholly condemned for any reason following slaughter or receipt into a game packing house.

  3. No levy shall be payable in respect of any one farmed deer carcase or piece of antler more than once.

  4. These rates of levy will come into effect from and inclusive of the 1st day of October 1998 and apply during the 1998–99 season and subsequently until such time as new levy rates are fixed and come into force.

7.1 Pursuant to regulation 17A (1) notice is given that the Game Industry Board hereby fixes the rate of additional levy payable in respect of failure to pay, or late payment of, amounts of board levy payable on or after the 1st day of October 1998 at 10 percent of the amount of levy unpaid.

7.2 This additional levy for failure to pay or late payment may be applied by the board at a rate of 10 percent on the outstanding balance following expiration of the period within which payment is required to be received by the board, and shall be payable by the proprietor of the deer slaughtering premises or game packing house concerned.

Dated at Wellington this 21st day of September 1998.

R. CHRISTIE, Chief Executive, New Zealand Game Industry Board.
