✨ Overdimension Vehicle Approvals
3054 NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE No. 125
Multi-axle full trailers; and
Other vehicles approved by the Director of Land Transport Safety
Vehicles of the above types which exceed the dimension limits set out in the Traffic Regulations 1976, and which are within the dimension limits set out below may operate on a road.
Width and Forward Distance—3.1 metres wide at 10.5 metres forward distance reducing to 2.5 metres wide at 11.0 metres forward distance in accordance with figure two.
Rear Overhang— 5.0 metres
Front Overhang (Distance ahead of front of driver’s seat)— 3.0 metres
Overall Length— 25.0 metres
Height— 4.25 metres
These limits apply to a vehicle in its normal travel mode when not carrying a load. Trombone trailers may be extended to different open positions (longer forward distances) in order to safely carry an indivisible load within the dimension limits permitted by this notice.
If the combination includes a load divider with a forward distance greater than 3.5 metres, the forward distance for overdimension purposes shall be calculated by adding the forward distance of the load divider and the forward distance of the trailer and subtracting 3.5 metres. This calculated forward distance can then be checked to determine if the combination falls within the limits of this notice.
Figure Two—Width and Forward Distance Limits
Signed at Wellington this 19th day of August 1998.
