Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977

South Canterbury Rural Fire District Notice 1998

Pursuant to the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977, the National Rural Fire Authority hereby makes the following notice.

Notice

1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice shall be cited as the South Canterbury Rural Fire District Notice 1998

(2) This notice shall come into force 28 days after its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.

2. In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires, the “Act” means the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977, the “committee” means the South Canterbury Rural Fire Committee, the “district” means the South Canterbury Rural Fire District and the “notice” means the South Canterbury Rural Fire District Notice 1998.

Constitution of the Rural Fire District

3. (1) The areas set out in the Schedule to this notice are hereby constituted and declared to be the district.

(2) For the purposes of the Act the district shall be administered by the committee.

(3) The committee shall consist of 5 members as follows:

(a) One person appointed by Timaru District Council, in writing, signed on behalf of that council by the chief executive and the secretary thereof; and

(b) One person appointed by The MacKenzie District Council, in writing, signed on behalf of that council by the chief executive and the secretary thereof; and

(c) One person appointed by The Waimate District Council, in writing, signed on behalf of that council by the chief executive and the secretary thereof; and

(d) One person appointed by the New Zealand Fire Service, in writing, signed on behalf of that organisation by the chief executive.

(e) One person appointed in writing, by the Director General of the Department of Conservation.

Schedule

Otago and South Canterbury Land Districts

All those parcels containing 1 157 000 hectares, more or less, as shown on S.O. Plan 19960, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Otago, as the same on those plans number NRFA 129, deposited in the headquarters of the New Zealand Fire Service at Wellington.

Conservation

Conservation Act 1987

Declaration That Conservation Area be a Local Purpose Reserve (Car Park) and Vesting of Reserve

Pursuant to section 8 (1A) of the Conservation Act 1987, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Conservator of the Southland Conservancy of the Department of Conservation, hereby declares that the conservation area described in the Schedule hereto, be set apart as a reserve, subject to the Reserves Act 1977, and classified as a local purpose reserve (car park), subject to the provisions of section 23 of the latter Act, and further, pursuant to section 26 of the Reserves Act 1977, vests the said reserve in The Southland District Council in trust for that purpose.

1,8300 hectares, more or less, being Section 1, S.O. 12021.

Reserves Act 1977

Revocation of the Reservation Over a Reserve

Pursuant to the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Conservation, the Community Relations Manager of the Wellington Conservancy of the Department of Conservation, hereby revokes the reservation as a reserve for gravel purposes over the land described in the Schedule hereto.
