Notice of Intention to Apply for Ministerial Approval of a Code of Practice Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992

Safety Code for Forest Operations

Pursuant to section 20 of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, I, R. J. M. Hill, General Manager, Occupational and Health Service of the Department of Labour, in exercise of those powers delegated to me by the Secretary of Labour, pursuant to section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988, hereby give notice of intention, to apply to the Minister of Labour for his approval of a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for health and safety in logging as an “Approved Code of Practice” under the Act.

These preferred work practices or arrangements are designed to describe the general operational safety and health provisions as to personal protective safety equipment, emergency procedures, general safety rules, use of mobile plant, use of chainsaws, working at fires and burn-offs, land preparation, establishment and silviculture, tree felling and extraction, processing and work with logs on skids, loading out and cartage of all types of forest produce, road construction and maintenance and portable solid wood processing.

Notice of Commencement of the Social Welfare (Reciprocity with Canada) Order 1996

The Director-General of Social Welfare gives notice that in January 1997, the Governments of New Zealand and Canada exchanged notes through the diplomatic channel notifying each other that all things necessary to give the agreements between them referred to in the above order the force of law in Canada and in New Zealand, had been done.

Accordingly, the order and the agreements will, in accordance with the agreements and clause 1 (2) of the order, come into force on 1 May 1997.
