The Karamea Bluff Ecological Area protects the forests, rivers and wildlife of the southern steeplands of the Karamea Ecological District.
The Mokihinui Forks Ecological Area protects characteristic land forms, geological formations, soils, plant communities and wildlife of the Wangapeka and Matiri Ecological Districts.
The Radcliffe Ecological Area protects populations and habitats of Powelliphanta lignaria johnstoni and Powelliphanta lignaria unicolorata around their type localities on northern Radcliffe Ridge.
The Atbara-Nile Ecological Area protects unmodified lowland forest ecosystems on the younger terraces of the late Quaternary terrace sequence bordering the northern Paparoa Range, and representative upland and alpine ecosystems.
The Te Wharau Ecological Area protects a relatively isolated pakihi and manuka shrubland ecosystem, and a fernbird population.
The Deepdale Ecological Area protects a representative unmodified mixed beech-podocarp lowland forest ecosystem with exceptionally high botanical and wildlife values, and habitat for longfinned eels.
The Maruia West Bank Ecological Area protects red beech stands, on regionally unique glacial landforms; an area of valley floor forest of high wildlife habitat value; an intact sequence of unmodified forest from valley floor to the treeline, and subalpine and alpine vegetation to the crest of the Victoria Range; and outstanding scenic values.
The Slab Hut Pakihi Ecological Area protects an induced characteristic pakihi, and the representative site for the Okarito silt loam soil.
The Otututu Ecological Area protects representative terrace and river flat landform-vegetation systems and terrace forest and pakihi native bird habitat.
The Moonlight Ecological Area protects representative lowland terrace forest and pakihi ecosystems.
The Mount Harata Ecological Area improves the representation of Quaternary and recent terraces in the protected areas of the Totara Flat Ecological District; and protects unmodified red beech dominant forest and wildlife habitats that are particularly important for avifauna and that form a link in the North Westland wildlife corridor.
The Nancys Clearing Ecological Area protects an altitudinal vegetation sequence from steep forest through hill and terrace podocarp-beech forest to kahikatea and red beech on alluvial terraces adjoining the Ahaura River, and associated wildlife habitat.
The Ahaura Terraces Ecological Area protects a sequence of podocarp-beech forests on river terraces, representative forest types, and wildlife habitat containing high parakeet numbers. It borders the Ahaura River Gorge which is subject to a national water conservation order.
The Bywash Pakihi Ecological Area protects an open bog pine pakihi east of Lake Hochstetter.
The Kaniere Ecological Area protects dense rimu hill forest, pakihi vegetation on a glacial terrace with intact sequences through to high forest, and habitat for longfinned eels and shortjawed kokopu.
The Kakapotahi Ecological Area protects characteristic landforms and plant communities of the northern half of the Harihari Ecological District, a significant area of wildlife habitat, and a striking natural feature (Bold Head) with high scenic and amenity values.
The Doctor Hill Ecological Area protects a representative assemblage of landforms, forest types, river and wetland.
The Upper Totara Ecological Area protects glacial landform and altitudinal sequences, and associated plant communities and forest types; an area of high value forest bird and freshwater fish habitat; and the type locality of Powelliphanta rossiana rossiana.
The Okarito Forks Ecological Area protects an induced pakihi.

Pursuant to section 63 of the Conservation Act 1987, the Minister of Conservation, declares that the areas of land described in the Schedule hereto, are hereby held as amenity areas under section 23A of the Conservation Act 1987.
