Declaring Land to be Held as Ecological Areas—West Coast

Pursuant to section 63 of the Conservation Act 1987, the Minister of Conservation, declares that the areas of land described in the Schedule hereto, are hereby held as ecological areas under section 21 of the Conservation Act 1987.

Schedule

Nelson Land District—Buller District

Glasseye Creek Ecological Area

2770.9798 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 14745, situated in Blocks III, V, VI and VII, Kongahu Survey District.

Karamea Bluff Ecological Area

4503.9313 hectares, more or less, being areas “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, “E”, “F”, “G”, “H”, “I”, “J”, “K”, “L”, “M” and “N”, S.O. Plan 14746, situated in Block V, Kongahu Survey District and Blocks VII, VIII, XI and XII, Mokihinui Survey District.

Mokihinui Forks Ecological Area

23 200 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 15387, situated in Block XVI, Otumahana Survey District, Blocks II, III, IV, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI, XII, XIV, XV, XVI, XVIII and XIX, Marina Survey District, Blocks I, II, III and IV, Taupo Survey District, and Blocks IV, VIII, XI and XII, Lyell Survey District.

Radcliffe Ecological Area

360 hectares, more or less, being Sections 1 and 2, S.O. Plan 15376, situated in Blocks XI and XV, Mokihinui Survey District.

Atbara-Nile Ecological Area

4120 hectares, more or less, being Section 1, S.O. Plan 15289, situated in Blocks X and XI, Waitakere Survey District, Block XVII, Ohika Survey District, and Blocks III, IV and VIII, Brighton Survey District.

Te Wharau Ecological Area

460 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 14754, situated in Blocks I, II and V, Reefton Survey District.

Deepdale Ecological Area

5015 hectares, more or less, being Section 1, S.O. Plan 15374, situated in Blocks II, III, VI and VII, Maruia Survey District.

Maruia West Bank Ecological Area

12 410 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 14755, situated in Blocks XIV and XV, Burnett Survey District, Block II, Lewis Survey District, and Blocks II, III, VI, VII, X, XI, XIV and XV, Rahu Survey District.

Slab Hut Pakihi Ecological Area

342 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 15272, situated in Block I, Waitahu Survey District, and Block IV, Mawheraiti Survey District.

Part Otututu Ecological Area

120.6 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 14758, situated in Block VI, Mawheraiti Survey District.

Westland Land District—Grey District

1505 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 11621, situated in Blocks I, II, V, VI and X, Mawheraiti Survey District.

Moonlight Ecological Area

255 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 11619, situated in Block XV, Waiwhero Survey District.

Mount Harata Ecological Area

2450 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 11618, situated in Blocks I, II, III, V and VI, Pohaturoa Survey District.

Nancys Clearing Ecological Area

Ahaura Terraces Ecological Area

1280 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown on S.O. Plan 11630, situated in Blocks VI, VII, XI, XII and XV, Ahaura Survey District.

Bywash Pakihi Ecological Area

320 hectares, more or less, being all the land shown as Bywash Pakihi Ecological Area on S.O. Plan 11627, situated in Blocks XI and XV, Ahaura Survey District.

Westland Land District—Westland District

Kaniere Ecological Area

470.34 hectares, more or less, being Section 1, S.O. Plan 11585, situated in Blocks VI and VII, Kaniere Survey District.

Kakapotahi Ecological Area

550 hectares, more or less, being Section 1, S.O. Plan 12376, situated in Block VIII, Waitaha Survey District.

Doctor Hill Ecological Area

1575 hectares, more or less, being Section 1, S.O. Plan 12377, situated in Block V, Toaroha Survey District, and Blocks III, IV, VII and VIII, Totara Survey District.

Upper Totara Ecological Area

2125 hectares, more or less, being Sections 1 and 2, S.O. Plan 12378, situated in Blocks VI, VII, X and XI, Totara Survey District.

Okarito Forks Ecological Area

150 hectares, more or less, being part R. 1640, S.O. Plan 11624, situated in Blocks XII and XVI, Okarito Survey District.

The ecological areas are all held for conservation purposes to protect indigenous intrinsic natural values and resources, and ecological and evolutionary systems, and in particular to protect the values specified in these explanatory notes. The Glasseye Ecological Area protects a representative forest habitat for Powelliphanta lignaria lusca, and protects
