Traffic Regulations 1976

Approval of Revolving Amber Lights for School Buses

Pursuant to regulation 67 (8) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, I, Peter Nicholas Rendall, Senior Vehicle Compliance Officer, hereby approve the fitting of revolving amber beacons to the vehicles specified in Schedule 1 below, provided that all the conditions set out in Schedule 2 below are complied with.

Schedule 1

Small and large passenger service vehicles that are used for the carriage of school children.

Schedule 2

  1. One flashing beacon may be fitted to the roof at the front as close as practicable to the right side of the vehicle.

  2. One flashing beacon may be fitted to the rear as close as practicable to the right side of the vehicle.

  3. The beacons are to function only when the vehicle is stationary and the door(s) are open.

  4. The beacons must be disabled when the vehicle is being used for other than the transport of school children.

Approval of Alternative Seatbelt Standard

Pursuant to regulation 88 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, I, Michael Joseph Small, Senior Vehicle Compliance Officer, hereby approve for the purposes of regulation 78A of the Traffic Regulations 1976, the seatbelt standard described in Schedule 1 of this notice, subject to the conditions of approval set out in Schedule 2 of this notice.

Schedule 1

Approved Alternative Standard:
Seatbelts that comply with South African Bureau of Standards, SABS 1080 - 1983, and any subsequent amendments.

Schedule 2

Conditions of Approval:

  1. Seatbelts that comply with SABS 1080-1983 and are labelled or otherwise marked in accordance with that standard.

  2. The seatbelt manufacturer must be approved by SABS to apply the SABS standard marking on every seatbelt which claims compliance with SABS 1080-1983.

  3. The SABS standard marking must be either:
