Area D: Manawatu/Wellington. South and West of Tangimoana, Bailey, Wilson and Mingaroa Roads, to Halcombe and along the railway line from Halcombe east to the Manawatu Gorge and then along the main divide of the Tararua and Rimutaka Ranges.

Daily Bag Limits

Waterfowl

A composite total of not more than 20 waterfowl being grey, shoveler and mallard duck, paradise shelduck, pukeko, black swan and Canada goose, EXCEPT THAT WITHIN THE TOTAL OF 20 WATERFOWL THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL BAG LIMITS APPLY:

  • Hen Mallard Duck (All areas), 5
  • Black swan (Area C): 4 May to 12 May 1996 incl., 3
    1 June to 28 July 1996 incl., 4
  • Black swan (Areas B and D): 4 May to 5 May 1996 incl., 1
    1 June to 3 June 1996 incl., 3
    29 June to 30 June 1996 incl., 3

Upland Game

  • California quail (all areas), no limit
  • Cock pheasant (all areas), 2
  • Brown Quail, 0, closed season.

Shooting hours: 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. No restriction 8 February 1997 - 9 March 1997 for the hunting of Canada goose only.

Decoy limit: No limit.

Special Conditions

  1. It shall be an offence to hunt or kill game from any unmoored boat, camoufaged boat or otherwise, within the Region during the first two days of the open season for game, being Saturday 4 May and Sunday 5 May 1996.

Definition of Areas

  • Area A: High Country: Kaikoura Land District and that part of the Canterbury Land District which contains the Conway River; the Awaterre Catchment and all that land lying south to the boundary of the Kaikoura Land District; the Clarence and Acheron Catchments; the Waiau River watershed upstream of the Power House on the Waipara River; the Wairau River watershed upstream of its junction with Marchburn Stream and Barretts Creek.

  • Area B: Low Country: All that area in the Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Region excluding that area defined in Area β€œA”.

  • Area C: Upland Game: All that area in the Nelson/Marlborough Fish and game region excluding the Waimea and Wairoa rivers up to the junction of the Lee River, and the Wai-iti River up to State Highway No.6 (Wai-iti Bridge), and excluding a 200 metre strip on both banks of these rivers within the said area.

  • Area D: Waimea: The area contained in the Waimea, Wairoa and Wai-iti Rivers including a 200 metre strip on both banks, as specified in Area C.

  • Area E: Pheasant: The area west of a line following the Bryant and St Arnaud Ranges and the Spencer Mountains within the Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Region.

  • Area F: Grey Duck: That area west of a line following the Arthur Range to Separation Point; and the Buller Catchment.

  • Area G: Wairau Lagoons: That area defined as all open waters, islands and the peninsular between Chandlers Lagoon and Big Lagoon, south of the Wairau River mouth, including Te Aropipi Channel, and east of SH1 and north of the White Bluffs.

  • Grey Duck (Area F), 10
  • Grey duck (Except area F), 3
  • Mallard duck, 20
  • Shoveler duck, 2
  • Black swan, 10
  • Pukeko, 10
  • Canada goose, No Limit
  • Paradise shelduck, 15
  • California quail, 10

Grey, shoveler and mallard duck aggregate limits, 20 in all of which not more than 3 may be Grey and not more than 2 may be Shoveler, except in Area F where the bag limit for Grey Duck is 10. For all other species individual bag limits apply.

  • Cock pheasant, (Area E) 1
  • Chukar (Area G), 0

Shooting hours: 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. during May 1996 and 6.45 a.m. to 6.15 p.m. during June 1996, except that during the period 3 June 1996 to 28 April 1997 incl. Canada goose may be hunted or killed 24 hours per day during the specified open season.

Decoy limit: No limit.

Special Conditions

  1. No person shall use or cause to be used for the purposes of hunting or killing game, any fixed stand, pontoon, hide, unmoored camouflage boat or maimai on the Wairau Lagoons, as defined in area G, except above the mean high water level.

  2. Moored camouflaged boats are permitted for hunting of killing game in the Wairau Lagoons, as defined in Area G.
