3. Prohibition on Unauthorised Fishing Tackle, etc

The following items are prohibited when fishing for sports fish:

3.1 any paravane

3.2 any stroke hauling or foulhooking gear

3.3 any spear

3.4 any narcotic, poisonous substance or liquid injurious to fish.

4. Prohibition of Possession or Control of Spear Gun

4.1 No licence holder, when fishing for sports fish, shall be in possession of, or be in control of, any spear gun or any pointed missile (other than a bullet) which is propelled by means of any mechanical or explosive device.

4.2 Where any licence holder is charged with an offence under subclause 4.1 it shall be a defence to the charge if the defendant proves that the spear gun or pointed missile in the defendant’s possession or under the defendant’s control was not used in fishing for sports fish.

4.3 In this notice “explosive” has the same meaning as in the Explosives Act 1957.

5. Foul Hooking of Fish

5.1 No licence holder shall attempt to foul hook any sports fish.

5.2 Any licence holder who lands a foul hooked sports fish shall return it immediately to the water alive with as little injury as possible.

6. Minimum Length

Every licence holder taking a sports fish which does not equal or exceed the specified minimum length shall immediately return it with as little injury as possible into the water from which it was taken.

7. Maximum Length

Every licence holder taking a sports fish which exceeds a specified maximum length shall immediately return it with as little injury as possible into the water from which it was taken.

8. Open Season

No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except during an open season.

9. Authorised Lures and Baits

Authorised lures and baits are:

Artificial or natural fly

Artificial or natural insect

Artificial or natural worm

Artificial or natural crustacea

Artificial or natural minnow

Artificial or natural fish (excluding fish ova, or any portion of a fish, or shellfish [mollusca])

Uncoloured bread dough

Artificial mouse

Artificial frog

Regional restrictions on using the above, as noted in Schedule Two, will apply.

SECOND SCHEDULE

NORTHLAND FISH AND GAME REGION

3. Hours of Fishing

All waters no restriction

4. Fishing Restrictions

Anglers trolling from boats must stay at least 50 metres from any angler fishing from the shore.

5. Daily Bag Limit of Killed Sportsfish

5.1 No licence holder shall on any one day kill more than 10 sportsfish.

5.2 No licence holder shall continue to fish on any day on which he or she has already killed a limit bag.

6. Minimum Size

The minimum size for trout: 300 mm.

The minimum size for other sportsfish: no limit

7. Revocation

The notice published in the supplement to the Gazette, No. 89 of 1 September 1994, on page 2693 titled District Anglers (Northland Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994, is hereby revoked.

AUCKLAND/WAIKATO FISH AND GAME REGION

Ohinemuri River, from the concrete bridge (known as the Victoria Street Bridge at Waihi) to its confluence with the Waihou River all year
Waitawheta Stream, from the upstream end of the public vehicle access on Franklin Road (as shown by a signpost) to its confluence with the Ohinemuri River all year
Waipa River downstream from Toa Bridge (some 16 km upstream from Otorohanga) to its confluence with the Waikato River all year
Puniu River downstream from the Seafund Road bridge to its confluence with the Waipa River all year
Mangawhero River between the Waikato River and the falls all year
Marakopa River from its junction with the Mangatuhua Stream to its mouth all year
