the eye) and the gape of the hook does not exceed 6 mm; and shall not include the use of any weight attached to the line or cast other than weighting incorporated in the manufacture of the line.

(3) In this notice all dates specified are included in the period quoted.

  1. Open season—(1) No licence holder shall fish for or take any sports fish except during an open season.

(2) Subject to clause 4 of this Notice, there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year.

(a) From the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the year following in the Pukaki-Ohau, Tekapo-Pukaki, Ruataniwha-Ohau “B” and Ohau “B”-Ohau “C” hydro canals, in Lakes Aviemore, Benmore and Ohau and the Tekapo River downstream of a line running beneath the lower pylons approximately 1 km from Lake Benmore, in Lakes Tekapo and Ruataniwha including Wairepo Arm and Kellands Pond, and in the Rangitata Diversion Race from the intake downstream to Rakaia River Road;

(b) From the 1st day of May to the 31st day of May in the same year in Lake Camp.

(c) From the first day of June to the 31st day of July in the same year in Lake Alexandrina.
  1. Closed season—(1) There shall be a closed season for fishing for sports fish—

    (a) From the 1st day of October to the Friday preceding the first Saturday in December in the same year in all the waters of the Ahuriri River upstream of and including Longslip Creek;

    (b) From the 1st day of October to the Friday preceding the first Saturday in November in the same year in Lakes Heron, Clearwater, Emma, Maori Lakes, Denny, Roundabout, Emily, Camp, Spider, Donn, Alexandrina, McGregor and Middleton or any high-country tarn, or in Deep Stream east of the bridge where it enters Lake Aviemore, or in the Ahuriri River below Longslip Creek, or in the Otematata and Ohau Rivers or in the Tekapo River upstream of a line running beneath the lower powerlines across the river or in tributaries of the said lakes, tarns, and rivers or in tributaries to lakes Pukaki and Tekapo;

    (c) From the 15th day of February to the 30th day of April in the same year in the Rangitata River and its tributaries above the point known as Red Rocks Bluff, that point being more particularly shown by white posts on the river banks; and in Lake Stream, a tributary of the Rakaia River.

    (d) From the 1st day of February to the 30th day of April in the same year in Larch Stream;

    (e) From the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the following year —

     (i) In the area known as Troutlands Holiday Park Sanctuary at Kurow, more particularly marked by notices at the upstream and downstream boundaries.
    
     (ii) In the Awakino River, a tributary to the Waitaki River.

    (f) From the 1st day of April to the 30th day of April in the same year in Bowyers Stream, Taylors Stream, or in the South Branch of the Ashburton River and its tributaries from its source downstream to its confluence with Taylors Stream.

(2) There shall be a closed season for fishing for salmon—

(a) From the 1st day of March to the 30th day of April in the same year in Lake Heron;

(b) There shall be a closed season for fishing for salmon from the 1st day of March to the 30th day of April in the same year in the Waitaki River between the Waitaki Dam and the mouth of the Maerewhenua River or in any tributary of that part of the Waitaki River.
  1. Authorised tackle—(1) No licence holder shall fish for or take any sports fish except by using a rod and running line.

(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause, when playing a sports fish, a landing net or gaff may be used to secure or land any such fish.

(3) No licence holder shall in fishing for, or taking sports fish, use more than one assembled rod and running line.

(4) No licence holder shall fish for sports fish unless within 15 metres of the rod being used and has the rod under visual observation.

(5) No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall use:-

(a) Subject to subsections (6) (d) and (6) (e) of this section, more than 2 lures or baits;

(b) Any lead or weight attached below or so as to hang below any lure or bait;

(c) In any water in which only artificial fly is permitted, any lead or weight other than the necessary weight of line, cast and fly;

(d) Any artificial fly having more than one hook or having a multiple hook;

(e) Any wire, either plain or twisted, except when trolling in Lakes Waitaki, Aviemore, Benmore, Ruataniwha, Ohau, Pukaki, or Tekapo;

(f) On or in conjunction with any fly, spoonbait, minnow, or other lure any single or fixed multiple assembly of hooks any one hook of which has a greater distance than 13 mm between the point and the nearest part of the shank of the hook;

(g) In conjunction with any spoonbait or artificial minnow, any lead or weight affixed to the trace or line at a distance of less than 38 cm above the lure;

    (i) Any unsportsmanlike device or method.

(6) No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall—

(a) Fish from any boat or other flotation device in Lakes Camp, Roundabout, Denny, Emily, Donn, Spider, or in Kellands Pond and the Wairepo Arm of Lake Ruataniwha.

(b) Fish from any unmoored boat or flotation device in Lakes McGregor, Middleton, Emma or the Maori Lakes;

(c) Subject to subclauses (6) (a) and (6) (b) of this clause, fish from any boat in any lake within 100 metres of any person already fishing from the shore of that lake;

(d) Cast other than from the reel or retrieve other than by winding the reel, from the 1st day of January to the 30th day of April in the same year, in the Opihi River or its tributaries, when using anything other than artificial fly or natural bait, or more than one bait when any weight is attached, or more than one hook (single or multiple) or any hook with a gap greater than 13 mm.

(e) From the 1st day of October to the 30th day of April in the following year, use, other than when fishing with natural bait, in the Ashburton, Rangitata, or Orari Rivers or their tributaries, more than one lure or bait
