British Settlements Act 1887

Officers of Government of Ross Dependency Appointed

CATHERINE A. TIZARD, Governor-General

WHEREAS, by an Order in Council dated the 30th day of July 1923*, made under the British Settlements Act 1887 of the United Kingdom Parliament, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand for the time being (hereinafter called the Governor) was appointed to be the Governor of the Ross Dependency, and all the powers and authorities which by the said order were given and granted to the Governor for the time being of the Dependency were thereby vested in him:

And whereas the Governor was thereby further authorised and empowered to make all such rules and regulations as might lawfully be made by Her Majesty’s authority for the peace, order, and good government of the Dependency:

And whereas, by regulations made by the Governor on the 14th day of November 1923†, it was enacted that all persons appointed by the Governor for the time being of the Dependency should have such power and authority as might be granted them in due course of law, and might be empowered to do such things as might be necessary or desirable to ensure that the laws in force in the Dependency are duly observed and complied with in every respect, and to do all things necessary or expedient for the peace, order, and good government of the Dependency, and to safeguard and preserve Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty over and in respect of the Dependency:

And whereas it is expedient that the persons hereinafter named be appointed officers of the Government of the Dependency:

Now, therefore, I, Dame Catherine Anne Tizard, the Governor-General of New Zealand, and as such the Governor of the Ross Dependency, hereby appoint

Peter James Brookman

to be an officer of the Government of the Dependency while he acts as Senior New Zealand Representative at Scott Base during the period beginning with the 1st day of December 1995 and ending with the close of the 28th day of February 1999:

And I hereby confer on the said Peter James Brookman while he holds office all the powers and authorities that may be exercised in New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace, and also the powers and authorities that may be so exercised by a Coroner:

And I also hereby appoint

Malcolm John Macfarlane

to be an officer of the Government of the Dependency while he acts as Senior New Zealand Representative at Scott Base during the period beginning with the 1st day of February 1996 and ending with the close of the 28th day of February 1999:

And I hereby confer on the said Malcolm John Macfarlane while he holds office all the powers and authorities that may be exercised in New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace, and also the powers and authorities that may be so exercised by a Coroner:

And I also hereby appoint

Gillian Shirley Wratt

to be an officer of the Government of the Dependency while she acts as Senior New Zealand Representative at Scott Base during the period beginning with the 1st day of February 1996 and ending with the close of the 28th day of February 1999:

And I hereby confer on the said Gillian Shirley Wratt while she holds office all the powers and authorities that may be exercised in New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace, and also the powers and authorities that may be so exercised by a Coroner:

The said Peter James Brookman, Malcolm John Macfarlane, and Gillian Shirley Wratt to exercise their functions at such places within the Dependency as may be directed by the officer for the time being appointed as an officer of the Government of the Dependency in whom is vested the general executive and administrative authority in preserving Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty and the laws and regulations in force in the Dependency.

As witness the hand of Her Excellency the Governor-General as the Governor of the Ross Dependency, this 19th day of November 1995.

Appointments and Reappointments to the Dental Technicians Board

Pursuant to the First Schedule of the Dental Act 1988, I hereby appoint

Gordon Macfarlan Carter
Megan Anne Williams
Cardell Raymond Fisher

and reappoint

Jennifer Tait
Neil Sinclair Watts
James Samuel Rodgers
Kenneth Edward Pryor
Warren Baird Hawke

under sections 74 (b), 74 (c), 74 (d), 74 (e) and 74 (f), to be members of the Dental Technicians Board each for a 3 year term of office commencing from the date of the notice of appointment advertised in the New Zealand Gazette or such later date as may be specified in the notice.

Medical Practitioners Act 1968

Approval of Hospitals for the Purposes of Section 16 (1) of the Medical Practitioners Act 1968

Pursuant to subsection (1) of section 16 of the Medical Practitioners Act 1968, the Minister of Health, acting on the recommendation of the Medical Council, hereby approves of the hospitals specified in the second column of the Schedule hereto, and controlled in each case by the authority indicated in respect thereof in the first column of that Schedule, as hospitals in which any person who is for the time being conditionally registered under that Act may practise medicine or surgery.

This notice amends the notice of approval of hospitals
