| Class of Vehicle | Glazing | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| All vehicles. | Glazing (other than the windscreen and the glazing attached to, or forming part of, the driver’s door and the front passenger’s door) which either has a light transmittance of zero (ie. is completely opaque), or completely diffuses incident lighting. | The vehicle must be fitted with external mirrors on both sides. |
| All vehicles which were manufactured or first registered outside New Zealand | Glazing (other than the windscreen and the glazing attached to, or forming part of, the driver’s door and the front passenger’s door) which as a result of the level of its tinting at the time of its manufacture (and not as a result of the application of a tinting film, overlay or other similar application to it) allows light transmittance at a rate of less than 35 percent. | 1.(a) The vehicle must have been first registered in New Zealand before 5.00 p.m. on 17 October 1995; or |
(b) Either:
(i) The importer of the vehicle must have purchased, or entered into a contract to purchase, the vehicle before 5.00 p.m. on 17 October 1995; or
(ii) At the time the importer purchased, or entered into a contract to purchase, the vehicle, the importer was not, and could not reasonably have been expected to be, aware of the terms and conditions of this Exemption Notice.
- The vehicle must be fitted with external mirrors on both sides.
