Direction by the Minister of Social Welfare

In the matter of section 5 of the Social Security Act 1964:

To: The Director-General of Social Welfare.

Pursuant to section 5 (2) of the Social Security Act 1964 ("the Act"), I, PETER JOHN GRESHAM, Minister of Social Welfare, HEREBY DIRECT that in the exercise of your powers under section 60j of the Act, you shall be satisfied that an applicant has a good and sufficient reason to decline an offer of suitable employment, if the wages or salary offered is a contravention of any order in council made under section 4 of the Minimum Wage Act 1983.

The previous direction on how you should exercise your powers under section 60j of the Act that was made by the Minister of Social Welfare on the 23rd day of April 1991, is HEREBY REVOKED.

Approval of Defensive Driving Courses

Pursuant to section 48 (2) (a) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Act 1986, and pursuant to section 39A of the Transport Act 1962, under powers delegated to me by the Acting Director of Land Transport Safety in an instrument of delegation dated the 20th day of August 1993, I, Warren Richard Gillespie Simeon, Manager, Road User Standards, hereby approve the following organisations for the purposes of section 68 of the Transport Act 1962 and regulations 11 (1) (b) (i) and 32 (2) of the Transport (Drivers Licensing) Regulations 1987:

Insurance Companies' Deposits Act 1953

Proposed Release of Deposit

Prudential Assurance Company of Australia and New Zealand Limited (herein called "the company"), has given notice to the Public Trustee that it has ceased to carry on business of insurance in New Zealand and that it proposes to withdraw, pursuant to section 19 of the Act, the deposit which has been made by it with the Public Trustee.

The Public Trustee therefore gives notice pursuant to section 19 (3) of the Act, that being satisfied that all liabilities of the company in New Zealand in respect of such insurance business have been fully liquidated or provided for, he proposes to release to the company on or after 1 May 1994, the amount deposited with him by the company.

Any objections to the release of the amount deposited
