Explanatory Note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which is made pursuant to the Maori Purposes Act 1993, applies sections 5 to 7 of that Act to certain mana authorities. The order comes into force on 29 April 1994.

The effect of the order is to cancel the mana contracts between the Crown and the mana authorities named in the order and to deem money paid to those mana authorities by the Crown under the mana enterprises scheme and certain other property to be the property of those mana authorities.

International Air Services Licensing Act 1947

Notice of Application to Amend an International Air Service Licence

Pursuant to section 14A of the International Air Services Licensing Act 1947, notice is hereby given that Polynesian Airlines (Holdings) Limited has applied for an amendment to its International Air Service Licence so as to permit the airline to operate a once weekly B737 return service on the route Apia-Tonga-Wellington-Melbourne. Further details of this proposal may be obtained from Manager Air Services, Ministry of Transport, P.O. Box 3175, Wellington.

Any person or organisation wishing to make representations relating to this application must forward those representations in writing to reach me on or before 21 April 1994.

Traffic Regulations 1976

Approval of Standards for High Mounted Stop Lamps

Pursuant to subclause (1) of regulation 88 of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to powers delegated to me by the Director of Land Transport Safety, I, Hugh Cameron Matheson, hereby approve the standards prescribed in the Schedule hereto as standards for high mounted stop lamps for the purposes of regulation 61A of the Traffic Regulations 1976.

Schedule

Article 39 of the Japanese Safety Regulations for Road Vehicles:

  • Japanese Technical Standard Koshin 175.
  • Japanese Industrial Standard D5500.

Exemption of Trailers From the Inboard Visibility Requirement for Forward-Facing Side Lamps

Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to the powers delegated to me by the Director of Land Transport Safety by an instrument of delegation dated 20th August 1993, I, Hugh Cameron Matheson, Senior Automotive Engineer, hereby exempt trailers from the requirements of regulation 59 (3) (b) subject to the conditions set out within this notice.

Conditions

Trailer mounted forward facing side lamps required by regulation 59 of the Traffic Regulations 1976 must when lit:

  1. display light substantially white or amber in colour, and
  2. in clear weather, during the hours of darkness, be visible from a distance of 200 m through angles of at least:
    a) 15 degrees above and below a horizontal plane passing through the lamp, and
    b) from an angle of 80 degrees outboard of a vertical plane passing through the lamp, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the trailer.

Approval of Alternative Standards for High Mounted Stop Lamps

Pursuant to regulation 6 of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, and pursuant to powers delegated to me by the Director of Land Transport Safety, I, Hugh Cameron Matheson, Senior Automotive Engineer, hereby prescribe the standards specified in the Schedule hereto as alternative standards for high mounted stop lamps for the purposes of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990.

Schedule
