after the words “other than a hydrofoil ship or surface effect ship of Class II, III and VI”, the words “or a high speed craft of Class II, III, VI, and VIII or high speed craft of Class IX of 500 gross tonnage or more.”

(d) by inserting, in paragraph 1 of the Schedule, after the definition of “Gas Carrier”, the following definition:

“High speed craft” has the meaning defined in the Ship Construction and Safety Equipment (Code of Practice for New High Speed Craft) Notice 1994;

8. Consequential amendments to the Ship Construction and Safety Equipment (Code of Practice for Hydrofoil Ships and Surface Effect Ships) Notice 1989—The Ship Construction and Safety Equipment (Code of Practice for Hydrofoil Ships and Surface Effect Ships) Notice 1989 is hereby amended by deleting the definition of “New hydrofoil ship or surface effect ship” in clause 3 of the Notice, and substituting the following definition:

“New hydrofoil ship or surface effect ship” means any hydrofoil ship or surface effect ship which comes into operation within New Zealand coastal waters on or after 1 November 1989 but before the date of commencement of the Ship Construction and Safety Equipment (Code of Practice for New High Speed Craft) Notice 1994;
