Explanatory notes, not forming part of the above resolutions:
Clause 1: The purpose of this clause is to isolate the Baptist Union (as the body corporate) from legal and financial liability in the matter of employment matters contracted by member churches of the Baptist Union and their Community Trust Boards.
Clause 2: The object of this clause is to offer guidelines on a range of issues, for the purpose of providing consistency, but without acceptance of liability.
Clause 3: The object of this clause is to encourage the adoption of good employment practices, thus discharging the Baptist Union’s moral and pastoral responsibilities.
Clause 4: This clause provides “in-house” employment policies for those staff for whom the Baptist Union has direct and an ultimate responsibility (ie Baptist Union Departmental, Administrative Staff and Association (Auxiliary) Staff).
Clause 5: The purpose of this clause is to identify the authority responsible for contracts concluded in the name of the Union.
This notice is inserted by authority of the Baptist Union Working Party on the Employment Contracts Act.
