District Anglers (Auckland/Waikato Fish and Game Region) Notice 1992
Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987 (as amended by section 17 of the Conservation Law Reform Act 1990), the Auckland/Waikato Fish and Game Council hereby gives the following District Anglers Notice.

Title and commencement—This notice may be cited as the District Anglers (Auckland/Waikato Fish and Game Region) Notice 1992 and shall come into force on the 1st day of October, 1992.

Interpretation—Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Conservation Act 1987 or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983 shall have the meaning so defined.

Open Season—(1) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive) in the following waters—
(i) All lakes within the Auckland/Waikato Fish and Game Region;
(ii) The Wairoa River;
(iii) The Waihou River and its tributary, the Waimakariri Stream;
(iv) The Maratoto Stream, from the ford on the old Whangamata track (also known locally as the Wires Track) near the junction with the Hamutu Stream, to its confluence with the Waihou River;
(v) The Ohinemuri River, from the concrete bridge (known as the Victoria Street bridge on the boundary of the Waihi township) to its confluence with the Waihou River;
(vi) The Waitawheta Stream, from the upstream end of the public vehicle access on Franklin Road (as shown by a signpost) to its confluence with the Ohinemuri River;
(vii) The Waikato River;
(viii) The Waipa River downstream from Toa Bridge (some 16km upstream from Otorohanga) to its confluence with the Waikato River;
(ix) The Puniu River downstream from the Seafund Road bridge to its confluence with the Waipa River;
(x) The Mangawhio River between the Waikato River and the falls;
(xi) The Marokopa River from its junction with the Mangaotahahua Stream to its mouth;
(xii) The Mangaotaki River from the lower bridge (as shown by a signpost) on the Mangaotaki Road (Pio Pio), to its confluence with the Mokau River;
(xiii) The Wanganu River, downstream from its confluence with the Whakapapa River.
(2) In respect to all other waters within the Auckland/Waikato Fish and Game Council region, except those specified in clauses 3(1) and 4 of this notice, there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of June in the following year (both days inclusive).
- Fishing in closed season prohibited—There shall be a closed season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive) in all rivers, streams and their tributaries which flow into but not including Lake Arapuni, Lake Waipapa, Lake Karapiro and that part of the Waikato River downstream from the Maraetai Dam to above the Karapiro Dam, but does not include the following waters—
(i) Waipapa River and tributaries;
(ii) Mangawhio stream and tributaries;
(iii) Waipa stream and tributaries;
(iv) Pokawhenuua stream and tributaries;
(v) Waikato River.
- Restrictions on methods of fishing—(1) No licence holder shall fish, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except by using a rod and running line except a roach pole which may be used to fish for and take perch, tench and rudd.
(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause—
(a) When playing a sports fish a landing net may be used to secure or land any such fish;
(b) For keeping alive perch, tench and rudd a keep net placed so as to have the entry above the waterline may be used.
(3) No licence holder shall have under their control more than one assembled rod and running line while fishing or taking sports fish, except that a licence holder participating in a fishing competition for perch, tench and rudd may have under his control two assembled rods and running lines, only one of which shall be used for fishing at any one time.
(4) No licence holder shall fish for sports fish unless the licence holder remains within 15 metres of the rod being used and he has the rod under visual observation at all times while the fishing line is on or in the water being fished.
(5) No licence holder shall, when fishing for sports fish, use or be in possession of, or be in control of, or convey or cause to be conveyed to the vicinity of any place where that licence holder is fishing or proposes to fish—
(i) any paravane;
(ii) any stroke-hauling or foul-hooking gear;
(iii) any spear, spear gun or similar implement;
(iv) subject to subclause 5(2) of this notice, no net of any description.
- Lures and baits—(1) No licence holder shall fish for sports fish with any bait or lure other than artificial fly in the following waters and all their tributaries—
(i) The Wairoa River from its source to the Hunua Falls;
(ii) The Tairua River;
(iii) The Kauaeranga River;
(iv) The Komata Stream;
(v) The Maratoto Stream from its source to the ford on the old Whangamata track;
(vi) The Kahu Stream (north-east of Okoroire);
(vii) The Waipapa River upstream from the first waterfall situated approximately 0.5 km from Lake Waipapa;
(viii) The Mangatu Stream from its source to the Lethbridge Road bridge;
(ix) The Puniu River from its source to the Bayley Road Bridge;
(x) The Kaniwhaniwha Stream;
(xi) The Ngakoahia Stream from its source on Pirongia Mountain to the bridge on the Pirongia-Kawhia roadway;
(xii) The Awakino River from its source to the Mahoenui Bridge;
(xiii) The Little Waipa Stream from its source to the Horahora Road bridge;
(xiv) The Waione Stream;
(xv) The Okauaka Stream.
(2) No licence holder shall fish for sports fish with any bait or lure other than spoonbait, artificial minnow or artificial fly in the following waters—
