Electoral Act 1956
Notice of Proposed Electoral Boundaries and Classification of Electorates
The Representation Commission hereby gives notice that it proposes to make a division of New Zealand into 95 General electoral districts and 4 Maori electoral districts in accordance with sections 16 and 23 of the Electoral Act 1956 and to classify districts for the purposes of the Higher Salaries Commission Act 1977. The following information is supplied pursuant to section 18 of the Electoral Act 1956 and for the assistance of the public:

From and including 30 July 1992, the public may inspect, without charge, at the places listed in the Schedule hereto:
(a) a description of the boundaries of the proposed districts, including maps thereof; and
(b) a summary, in respect of each proposed district, of the reasons why the boundaries described are being proposed; and
(c) a classification of the proposed districts for the purposes of the Higher Salaries Commission Act 1977. -
The Representation Commission will receive written objections to the proposed boundaries and to the proposed classification, if in the hands of the Commission not later than Monday, 31 August 1992. Objections should be addressed to:
The Representation Commission, Care P.O. Box 31-115, Lower Hutt. -
All objectors are requested to clearly state:
(i) the name and address of the objector,
(ii) the electorate(s) to which the objection applies,
(iii) the specific provision objected to,
(iv) the grounds of the objection, and
(v) the precise change(s) suggested by the objector to overcome the objection. -
All electorates must contain electoral populations varying not more than 5 percent from the following quotas:
Quota Allowance North Island General Electorates 33,446 +/- 1,672 South Island General Electorates 33,538 +/- 1,677 Maori Electorates 45,196 +/- 2,260 Within those allowances the Commission is required in forming General electoral districts by law to give due consideration to the existing boundaries of electoral districts, to community of interest, to facilities of communications, and to topographical features. In forming the Maori electoral districts the Commission is required by law to give due consideration to the existing boundaries of the Maori electoral districts, to community of interest among the Maori people generally and members of Maori tribes, to facilities of communications, and to topographical features.

Objectors to electoral boundaries are requested to relate the grounds of their objections, and the precise changes suggested by them, to those statutory considerations.

The Commission requests objectors to indicate if they wish to speak briefly to their objections before meetings of the Commission to be held at Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Dunedin in early October 1992. Full details of each objection must be in writing. Whether or not an objector is heard, his or her written objection will be fully considered. However late objections cannot be considered.
