Summary of Bills Introduced
Auckland City Council (Workers’ Homes) Vesting and Empowering
The purposes of this Local Bill are twofold:
(i) To vest in the Auckland City Council four residential properties forming part of a housing scheme initiated by the Council in 1923 with the assistance of grants in aid by the Government and which have now been abandoned by their owners; and
(ii) To vest in the Council the accumulated funds held in trust that have resulted from the letting of these properties by the Council as mortgagee in possession.
Napier City Council (Control of Skateboards) Empowering
The purposes of this Local Bill are to empower the Napier City Council to make bylaws regulating the use of skateboards on any road or public place, and to provide the Council with the right to seize or confiscate any skateboard used in contravention of the provisions of any such bylaw.
Sale of Liquor (Off-Licence) Amendment
This Private Member’s Bill seeks to amend the Sale of Liquor Act 1989 to allow winemakers (holding the appropriate licences) to sell their own wines from their premises on a Sunday and to allow the sale of fruit wine in supermarkets and grocery stores holding off-licences.
Equal Employment Opportunities
Part I of this Private Member’s Bill establishes a Commission for Equity in Employment and includes a number of provisions to ensure the Equal Employment Opportunities Act is carried out and monitored. These include the functions, membership, and powers of the Commission.
Part II puts into place procedures that will promote equal employment opportunities programmes and eliminate inequality of opportunity for designated groups from all forms of paid employment in the public and private sectors.
Part III has miscellaneous provisions which include provision for review of the operation of the Act and an amendment to the New Zealand Bill of Rights 1990 by inserting a subsection on discrimination.
