Proportional Representation Indicative Referendum

This Private Member’s Bill was introduced and first referred to the Electoral Law Committee on 30 May 1990. The Bill as introduced provided for the holding of a poll, in conjunction with the 1990 General Election, to determine whether members of Parliament should be elected by proportional representation. The Committee reported the Bill back to the House on 4 September 1990 recommending amendments providing for the poll to be held before 31 October 1991.

Following a debate in the House the Bill was again referred to the Committee on 27 March 1991 for consideration.
