Approval of Defensive Driving Courses

Pursuant to section 48 (2) (a) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Act 1986, and under powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport in an instrument dated the 31st day of August 1990, I, Warren Richard Gillespie Simeon, Controller, Road User Standards, hereby approve the following organisations for the purposes of section 68 of the Transport Act 1962 and regulations 11 (1) (b) (i) and 32 (2) of the Transport (Drivers Licensing) Regulations 1987:

Ace Security Premier Training Academy Defensive Driving Course.

Manukau Urban Maori Authority Defensive Driving Course.

Wide Wheels Defensive Driving Course.

Broadcasting Standards Authority

Broadcasting Act 1989

Broadcasting Standards Authority—Decision No. 26/91 and 27/91

Pursuant to section 15 of the Broadcasting Act 1989, notice is hereby given that the Broadcasting Standards Authority has made the following decisions on complaints referred to it for investigation and review.

(i) In Decision 26/91, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint by Heritage Mining NL and Gold Resources Limited that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of the Frontline programme “Quartz and All” on 1 July 1990 breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters by section 4 (1) (d) of the Act that, when controversial issues of public importance are discussed, reasonable efforts are made to present significant points of view.

(ii) In Decision 27/91, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint by the New Zealand Jewish Council that the broadcast by Radio Pacific Limited on 18 January 1991 breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters not to encourage the portrayal of persons in a manner which encourages denigration of, or discrimination against, a section of the community on account of race.
