- Revocation—The notice published in the supplement to the Gazette, No. 164 of Thursday, 24 September 1987, on pages 4516–4517 titled District Anglers (Otago Acclimatisation District) Notice 1987, and the notice published in the supplement to the Gazette No. 148 of Thursday, 24 August 1989, on pages 3754–3756 titled District Anglers (Southern Lakes District) Notice 1989, are hereby revoked.

District Anglers (Southland Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990
Pursuant to section 26R(3) of the Conservation Act 1987 (as added by section 17 of the Conservation Law Reform Act 1990), the Southland Fish and Game Council hereby gives the following District Anglers Notice.

Title and commencement—This Notice may be cited as the District Anglers (Southland Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990 and shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1990.

Interpretation—(1) Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Conservation Act 1987, or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983, shall unless the context means otherwise have the meanings so defined.
(2) In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires—
“Boat” includes a launch or other vessel; and also includes any canoe, punt or raft, and any aircraft or hovercraft on the surface of the water.
“Distict” means the Southland Fish and Game Region.
“Foulhook” in relation to any sports fish means to take the sports fish with the hook otherwise than through the mouth.
“Lower Waiau River” means that portion of the Waiau River downstream of the Mararoa Weir.
“Lake Manapouri” includes that portion of the Waiau River channel from Pearl Harbour to a line across the channel 400 m north of the Mararoa Weir and that body of water commonly known as Lake Manapouri.
“Upper Waiau River” is that portion of the Waiau River between Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri.

Open season—(1) Subject to subclauses (2), (3) and (4) of this clause, there shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive).
(2) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:
(a) Lakes Te Anau, Manapouri, Monowai, Hauroko and all waters draining to the sea between the Awarua Point and Puysegur Point. (b) The Mataura River downstream from the gorge Road traffic bridge; (c) The Oreti River downstream from the bridge on the Riverton-Invercargill road; (d) The Aparima River downstream from the Gummies Bush Road bridge; (e) The Pourakino River downstream from the Pourakino Valley bridge at Waipango; (f) The Makarewa River downstream of the bridge on the Riverton-Invercargill Road at Wallacetown; (g) The Waihopai River downstream from the Queens Drive bridge; (h) The tidal section of the Lower Waiau River downstream from the signposted point (Map reference S175:725.255), approximately 1 km from the outer edge of the coastal boulder bank, including the whole area of the Te Wae Wae Lagoon, but excluding the Hollyford; (i) The Waikivi Stream downstream from the North Road Bridge; (j) The Waikawa River downstream from the bridge at Niagara; (k) The Titiroa River downstream of the Locks adjacent to the State Highway 92 bridge; (l) The Waimatuku Stream downstream from Hamilton’s Bridge.(3) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of November to the 31st day of May (both days inclusive) in all waters draining into Lakes Manapouri, Te Anau, Monowai and Hauroko, except for the Mararoa River, its tributaries and the Mavor Lakes and their tributaries.
(4) There shall be an open season for fishing for sports fish from the 1st day of October to the 31st day of May (both days inclusive) in the Upper Waiau River.
(5) No licence holder shall take any sports fish except during an open season.

Closed seasons—(1) There shall be a closed season in respect of the taking of sports fish from the 1st day of October to the 30th day of September in the following year (both days inclusive) in the following waters:
(a) That portion of Lake Te Anau that lies within 100 m of any part of the wharf of the Fiordland Travel Company’s office in the township of Te Anau. (b) That portion of Lake Manapouri which lies within 100 m of any part of the Fiordland Travel Company’s Tourist Centre, Pearl Harbour, Manapouri. -
Authorised tackle—(1) No licence holder shall take any sports fish except by using a rod and running line.
(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause when playing a sports fish, a landing net may be used to secure or land any such fish.
(3) No licence holder shall when fishing for sports fish, use or have under his or her control, more than one assembled rod and running line at any one time.
(4) No licence holder shall fish for sports fish unless he or she is within 15 metres of the rod he or she is using and has the rod under his or her own visual observation.
(5) No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall—
(a) Use more than 2 lures or baits; (b) Use in any water in which only artificial fly is permitted, any lead or weight other than the necessary weight of line, cast and fly; (c) Use any bait or lure treated with any medicinal or chemical preparation other than; (i) In the case of artificial fly, a preparation used solely to give buoyancy to such flies; (ii) In the case of artificial baits, formalin or other preservation preparation; (d) Use with any fly, bait, or other lure any single, double or treble hook or other fixed multiple assembly of hooks, any one hook of which has a greater distance than 10 mm between the point and the nearest part of the shank of the hook; (e) Attempt to foulhook any sports fish. -
Prohibition on unauthorised fishing tackle, etc—(1) No licence holder shall, when fishing for sports fish, use or be in possession of or be under control of, any stroke-hauling or foulhooking gear, or any spear.
