Traffic Regulations 1976

Approval of Motorcycle Safety Helmets in Terms of the Traffic Regulations 1976

Pursuant to subclause (1) of regulation 88 of the Traffic Regulations 1976 and pursuant to powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport by an instrument of delegation dated the 2nd day of November 1987, motorcycle safety helmets of the make and type described in the Schedule hereto are hereby approved for the purposes of regulation 31 of the said regulations.

Schedule

Safety helmets manufactured by Shoei Kako Co. Ltd., Japan, certified to Snell Memorial Foundation Performance Standard 1985 and marked accordingly and bearing the model designation VJ-101V.

Exemption from Requirement to Fit High Mounted Stop Lamps

Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976 and pursuant to powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport by an instrument of delegation dated the 2nd day of November 1987, vehicles of the classes specified in the Schedule hereto are hereby exempted from the requirements concerning high mounted stop lamps as specified in regulation 61A of the said regulations.

Schedule

  1. Vehicles in which the centre of the steering wheel is in the foremost quarter of the vehicle’s total length.

  2. Vehicles designed with special features for off road operation including at least 4 of the following characteristics:
    (a) Approach angle of not less than 28 degrees.
    (b) Breakover angle of not less than 14 degrees.
    (c) Departure angle of not less than 20 degrees.
    (d) Running clearance of not less than 200 mm.
    (e) Front axle clearance, rear axle clearance, or suspension clearance of not less than 175 mm each.

Approval of Alternative Type of Seat Belt for Specified Vehicles

Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to the powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport, I, Hugh Cameron Matheson, Senior Automotive Engineer, hereby exempt the motor vehicles described in the Schedule hereunder from the requirements of regulation 78A (c)† in relation to the fitting of three point lap and diagonal seat belts in sitting positions to the rear of the drivers seat, provided that such seating positions are fitted with lap belts of an approved type.

Schedule

  1. Renault Alpine V6 GT D50005.
  2. Renault Alpine V6 GT Turbo D50105.
