Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Army
Pursuant to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Army.
REGULAR FORCE
Colonels’ List
Colonel E. B. Bestic to be temporary Brigadier with effect from 20 March 1989.
Colonel Michael Alexander Harvey, B.C.A., is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 29 March 1989.
Royal Regiment of N.Z. Artillery
Colonel Commandant
With reference to the notice published in the Gazette, 20 April 1989, No. 70, page 1595, appointing Major General R. D. P. Hassett, C.B., C.B.E., Retired List, as Colonel Commandant, RNZA, for the date “1 April 1989” substitute “1 June 1989”.
The seniority of Major M. D. Beattie is antedated to 20 April 1988.
The following are transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in their present rank with effect from the date shown:
- Temporary Major John Andrew Henderson, 23 January 1989.
- Captain Leyton Upton Hughes, 2 March 1989.
- Lieutenant R. G. Witana to be temporary Captain with effect from 20 December 1988.

Temporary Colonel R. K. Storey, DIP.ARTS(MIL), to be Colonel with seniority from 20 June 1988, effect from 20 March 1989 and is transferred to the Colonels’ List.
Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Paul McGregor, B.A.(MIL), is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 7 April 1989.
Captain R. L. C. Odom to be acting Major with effect from 3 April 1989.
Royal N.Z. Infantry Regiment
Warrant Officer Class I Bruce Morris Holmes is appointed to a commission in the rank of Lieutenant and Quartermaster, with seniority from 11 May 1985 and effect from 26 March 1989; to be temporary Captain and Quartermaster with effect from 27 March 1989.
Lieutenant Colonel J. S. Harman is re-engaged until 21 February 1990.
Major Patrick John Hibbs is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 10 April 1989.
The seniority of Major J. Mateparae is antedated to 20 December 1987.
Captain T. M. Brown to be temporary Major with effect from 27 April 1989.
Captain P. J. Gibbons to be acting Major with effect from 8 March 1989.
Captain Murray Ian David Gribbin, B.A.(HONS), is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 4 April 1989.
Temporary Captain M. T. Eru to be Captain with seniority and effect from 1 February 1989.
Lieutenant M. J. Alexander, B.A.(HONS), to be temporary Captain with effect from 8 March 1989.
Lieutenant Paul Andrew Buick is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 2 March 1989.
Lieutenant E. M. Parata to be temporary Captain with effect from 12 April 1989.

Lieutenant P. L. Hughes, B.A., to be temporary Captain with effect from 20 March 1989.

Lieutenant Jody Lyn Stewart is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in her present rank with effect from 11 March 1989.
Lieutenant Fiona June Pirie, B.A., is transferred from the Territorial Force in her present rank, with seniority from 19 June 1988 and effect from 21 February 1989.
2nd Lieutenant Margaret Kay Tyrrell is posted to the Retired List with effect from 17 April 1989.
Royal N.Z. Army Medical Corps
Christopher John Read, M.B., Ch.B., is appointed to a commission on a Special Medical Engagement in the rank of Captain, with seniority from 6 March 1987 and effect from 7 February 1989; terminating on 6 August 1993.
The Corps of Royal N.Z. Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Captain C. A. S. Lott to be temporary Major with effect from 28 March 1989.
Kelvin Murray Barclay, B.E.(HONS), is appointed to a commission on a fixed engagement of 3 years in the rank of Captain, with seniority from 13 February 1988 and effect from 13 February 1989.
Lieutenant P. Summers, B.SC.(MIL), to be temporary Captain with effect from 19 December 1988.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster Alan Howard Chambers is transferred to the Army Reserve, General List of Officers, in his present rank with effect from 4 February 1989.
