Notice

1. Title

This notice may be cited as the Unsafe Goods (Pistol Crossbows) Notice 1988.

2. Certain types of pistol crossbows declared to be unsafe goods

The following pistol crossbows are hereby declared to be unsafe goods—

(a) The Ninja pistol crossbow;

(b) The Barnett Phantom pistol crossbow;

(c) Any pistol crossbow which does not have a safety catch on the firing mechanism.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice declares certain types of pistol crossbows to be unsafe goods under section 31 of the Fair Trading Act 1986. The crossbows declared to be unsafe are the Ninja pistol crossbow, the Barnett Phantom pistol crossbow, and any pistol crossbow which does not have a safety catch on the firing mechanism.

Under section 31 (2) of the Act, unless it is sooner revoked, the notice remains in force for a period of 18 months after the date of publication in the Gazette. It is an offence under the Fair Trading Act 1986 to supply, or offer to supply, or advertise to supply, goods which are declared to be unsafe goods.

Section 33 of that Act prohibits the importation of such goods into New Zealand.

The Unsafe Goods (Toy Pistol Liquids) Notice 1988

Pursuant to section 31 of the Fair Trading Act 1986, the Minister of Consumer Affairs gives the following notice.

1. Title

This notice may be cited as the Unsafe Goods (Toy Pistol Liquids) Notice 1988.

2. Certain liquids intended for use in toy pistols declared to be unsafe goods

The following goods are hereby declared to be unsafe goods—

(a) Plastic or other containers of liquid described as “Wipe-out Magic Liquid”;

(b) Plastic or other containers of liquid described as “Zap-it”;

(c) Any plastic or other container of liquid having a pH less than pH3 or greater than pH10 and intended for use in toy pistols.

Customs Exchange Rates Notice (No. 9) 1988

Pursuant to section 143 of the Customs Act 1966, the Comptroller of Customs, in accordance with the power delegated to him by the Minister of Customs under section 9 of that Act, hereby gives the following notice.

Notice

1. Short title and commencement

(1) This notice may be cited as the Customs Exchange Rates Notice (No. 9) 1988.

(2) This notice shall come into force on the 25th day of April 1988.

2. Exchange rates

Where under any provisions of the Customs Act 1966 any amount which is required to be taken into account for the purpose of assessing duty or any other purpose is not an amount in New Zealand currency, the amount to be so taken into account shall be the equivalent in New Zealand currency of that amount ascertained in accordance with the rate of exchange set out in the Schedule to this notice.

3. Revocation

The Customs Exchange Rates Notice (No. 8) 1988, published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 56, dated the 31st day of March 1988, on page 1324 is hereby revoked.
