notice is hereby given that the following draft New Zealand standard
specifications are being circulated.
Number and Title of Specification
DZ 6101 Classification of hazardous areas—
Part 1: Explosive gas atmospheres. $11.00 (incl. GST).
This standard will provide guidance for the classification of
hazardous areas according to the existence of or likelihood of the
existence of an explosive gas/air mixture. Zones 0, 1 and 2 are
covered. These are sometimes referred to as Class I areas.
The draft applies to open and enclosed areas, in all above-ground
situations, where there may be a risk due to the presence of
flammable gas or vapour mixed with air under normal atmosphere
conditions.
Part 2: Combustible dusts. $11.00 (incl. GST).
This proposed standard sets out requirements for the classification
of hazardous areas according to the existence of, or the likelihood
for the existence of, combustible dusts. Zones Y and Z are covered—
such areas are sometimes referred to as Class II areas.
The draft standard applies to open and enclosed areas where
ambient air temperature and pressure apply. Areas where higher
and lower atmospheric temperatures and pressures are present are
not excluded provided that their effects on the properties of the
flammable materials are taken into account. It also considers areas
where hybrid mixtures exist.
