PUBLIC notice is hereby given pursuant to section 60 of the Commerce Act 1986, that the New Zealand Tobacco Growers Federation has applied for authorisation of a restrictive trade practice. This comprises an arrangement on behalf of its members for the purposes of negotiating prices for the supply of tobacco leaf to the tobacco manufacturers and co-ordinating the allocation of leaf amongst growers.

The Commission is required by the Act to consider whether or not this arrangement constitutes a "substantial lessening of competition" in relevant markets and if so whether or not countervailing public benefits exist.

Any person who has an interest in the application should give written notice of that interest to the Commerce Commission, together with the reasons therefor, by 18 September 1987.

D. J. KERR, Commerce Commission.
