Review of Taxicab Services—Nelson City

Review pursuant to section 144 of the Transport Act 1962 of taxicab services being carried on in Nelson City for the purpose of ascertaining whether or not those services are adequate to meet the reasonable public demand; whether or not those services are being carried on in an efficient manner, and whether or not the grant of additional licences would materially affect the economic stability of other holders of taxicab service licences.

Notice of Intention to Hold Inquiry Into Operation of Licence

To: Geoff Wallace Contracting Ltd. (referred to below as the licensee)
and
To: The Secretary for Transport.

TAKE notice that pursuant to section 140 of the Transport Act 1962 the Licensing Authority for the No. 9 Transport District will hold an inquiry into the operation of the service conducted under Transport Service Licence No. 3949 to determine:

(a) Whether owing to changed circumstances the service meets the criteria set out in section 123 of the Transport Act 1962.

The Licensing Authority suspects: That the service provided by the licensee no longer meets the criteria set out in section 123 of the Transport Act 1962.

Upon the Grounds

That he has been informed by Mark Gordon Dollimore, an investigating officer for the Secretary for Transport, that it is the Ministry of Transport’s understanding that the licensee is still operating a 1969 Ford Truck Registered No. JH 3183. This is contrary to the undertaking given by the licensee, at a hearing in 1986, that this vehicle would be replaced by the end of October 1986.

The inquiry will be held at 9.30 a.m. on the 20th day of August 1987 at the District Court, Timaru.

The licensee and the Secretary for Transport are entitled to appear and be heard at this inquiry, and may be represented by a lawyer or other agent.

Any of those persons or bodies may seek further information regarding the inquiry from the undersigned.
