The Standards Act 1965—Draft New Zealand Standard Specifications Available for Comment

Pursuant to subsection (3) of section 23 of the Standards Act 1965, notice is hereby given that the following draft New Zealand Standard Specifications are being circulated.

Number and Title of Specification

DZ 6605 Compatibility of television broadcast receivers with broadcast signals. $10.

This draft Standard is a revision of NZS 6651:1973, updated to take account of the revised Television Broadcasting Technical Rules 1982.

The draft describes the technical characteristics of the television signals broadcast in New Zealand, the carrier frequencies allocated to this service, and other parameters relating to the performance of receivers and receiving antennas. It specifies certain design characteristics of receivers and receiving antennas that are necessary or desirable for satisfactory reception in the presence of levels of interference considered likely to occur in New Zealand.

DZ 6606 Broadcast teletext. $15.

This draft Standard defines the teletext system used in New Zealand. Much of the detailed information is carried by figures and tables.

The draft is based on the Teletext system broadcast in the United Kingdom and defined in a specification which was jointly published by the British Broadcasting Corporation, the Independent Broadcasting Authority and the British Radio Equipment Manufacturers’ Association in September 1976.

Additional requirements are given for the transmission of closed caption data by teletext, and an appendix gives details of an enhanced teletext system which may eventually be introduced in New Zealand.

All persons who may be affected by these publications and who desire to comment thereon may obtain copies from the Standards Association of New Zealand, Wellington Trade Centre, 181–187 Victoria Street (formerly known as 15–23 Sturdee Street) (or Private Bag), Wellington.

The closing date for receipt of comment is 27 June 1986.
