State Forest Land Set Apart as a Dedicated Area—Kohaihai Ecological Area—Nelson Conservancy

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as inserted by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and amended by section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976), the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land described in Schedule hereto is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of the natural environment and native wildlife, and for scientific purposes, especially ecological purposes. The area so dedicated will be known as Kohaihai Ecological Area.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This area is dedicated as an ecological area for the preservation and protection of two forest associations otherwise poorly represented in reserves. These associations forming part of the beech/non-beech interface contain a high diversity of plant species and occur in the catchments of the Kohaihai and Oparara Rivers. The area is also dedicated to preserve and protect karst areas of the scientifically important Honeycomb Hill cave system.

Change of Name of a Recreation Reserve

PURSUANT to the Reserves Act 1977, and to a delegation from the Minister of Lands, the Assistant Commissioner of Crown Lands hereby declares that the recreation reserve, described in the Schedule hereto, and known as part South Malvern Domain shall hereafter be know as South Malvern Recreation Reserve.
