Commerce Act 1986—Section 58. Application

PUBLIC notice is hereby given pursuant to section 60 of the Commerce Act 1986 that Weddell Crown Corporation Ltd., Waitaki International Ltd. and W. Richmond Ltd. have applied for authorisation of a restrictive trade practice. This comprises an arrangement amongst the companies relating to the removal of meat slaughtering capacity in the lower North Island by means of the closure of the Whakatu Freezing Works in Hastings and the closure of the slaughtering facilities of Advanced Meat Ltd. at Gisborne.

The arrangement encompasses certain merger or takeover proposals, cost sharing in relation to the closures, and agreement as to the responsibility for effecting the closures.

The Commission is required by the Act to consider whether or not this arrangement constitutes a “substantial lessening of competition” in relevant markets and if so whether or not countervailing public benefits exist.

Any person who has an interest in the application should give written notice to that interest to the Commerce Commission, together with the reasons therefor, by 12 December 1986.

PURSUANT to subsection (1A) of section 86 of the Public Finance Act 1977, I, David Francis Caygill, Acting Minister of Finance, give the following notice:

On 7 September 1986, I, acting on behalf of the Crown, gave an indemnity to the Administrative Bureau for Museums and Archaeological Data of Shaanxi Province in respect of damage to or loss of any of the items in the exhibition known as “The Buried Army of Qin Shihuang”. The indemnity in relation to the exhibition is not to exceed $20,371,244.
