Open Season for Game in Acclimatisation Districts North Island and South Island
IMPORTANT
The information published in this Gazette will be published in like form in 1990. In the intervening years this Gazette will contain details of the Minister's decision relating to game that may be hunted, the dates and shooting hours between which such game may be hunted, decoy limits, bag limits, and any amendments to special conditions, possession limit, and closed game areas, published in this Gazette. Acclimatisation societies are asked to ensure that all purchasers of shooting licences are placed in possession of a comprehensive statement of their rights, duties and obligations during the shooting season.
Pursuant to the Wildlife Act 1953, the Minister of Internal Affairs declares an open season for game, in the acclimatisation districts, and subject to the conditions, specified in the Second Schedule hereto, except in the closed game areas specified in the Third Schedule hereto.
The attention of gamebird hunters and others is drawn to the daily game possession limits, the conditions pertaining to approval of certain methods to take game and the availability of licences set forth in the First Schedule hereto and to the provisions of the Wildlife Act 1953 and the Wildlife Regulations 1955.
FIRST SCHEDULE
Daily Game Possession Limit
Except where all game is labelled with the following details:
(a) The name and address of the person by whom the game was taken;
(b) The number of the licence to hunt or kill game held by the person by whom the game was taken;
(c) The name of the acclimatisation society by which that licence was issued;
(d) The name of the acclimatisation district in which the game was taken; and
(e) The date on which the game was taken;
no person shall have in his possession on any one day game in excess of the following numbers:
North Island and South Island
Saturday, 4 May 1985: The number of game birds specified in the Second Schedule of this notification as the daily bag limit for the acclimatisation district in which the game is taken.
Sunday, 5 May 1985: Twice the number of game birds specified for Saturday, 4 May 1985.
Every subsequent day: The number of game birds specified in the Second Schedule of this notification as the daily bag limit for the acclimatisation district in which the game is taken.
A Waiver of Restrictions on Baiting, and Methods of Taking Game and Shooting of Game Not in Flight
Baiting for Waterfowl
Pursuant to section 17 of the Wildlife Act 1953, the Minister of Internal Affairs approves persons to hunt or kill game of the family Anatidae (waterfowl) during an open season for game in the acclimatisation districts named hereto, where food has been cast, thrown, placed or planted during the 1985 open season for game, or during the period thirty (30) days immediately preceding the 1985 open season for game, and subject to the conditions specified below:

Bay of Islands Acclimatisation District.
Central North Island Wildlife Conservancy.
Hawkes Acclimatisation District.
Hawke's Bay Acclimatisation District.
Hobson Acclimatisation District.
Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatisation District.
Marlborough Acclimatisation District.
Nelson Acclimatisation District.
North Canterbury Acclimatisation Ditrict.
Otago Acclimatisation District.
South Canterbury Acclimatisation District.
Southern Lakes Acclimatisation District.
Southland Acclimatisation District.
Stratford Acclimatisation District.
Tauranga Acclimatisation District.
Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation District.
Wanganui Acclimatisation District.
Wellington Acclimatisation District.
West Coast Acclimatisation District.
Westland Acclimatisation District.
Whangarei Acclimatisation District.
Magazine Shotguns
Pursuant to section 18 (1) (c) (iii) of the Wildlife Act 1953 (as amended by the Wildlife Amendment Act 1983) the Minister of Internal Affairs approves persons to hunt or kill game within the acclimatisation districts named hereto, with any shotgun of a calibre 12 gauge or less having a magazine of any type not adjusted in accordance with regulations made under this Act, and capable of holding more than one shell, subject to the conditions specified below and for certain acclimatisation districts.

West Coast Acclimatisation District.
Westland Acclimatisation District.
Camouflaged Rowboats
Pursuant to section 18 (1) (f) (vi) of the Wildlife Act 1953 (as amended by the Wildlife Amendment Act 1983) the Minister of Internal Affairs approves persons to hunt or kill game within the acclimatisation districts named hereto, from unmoored camouflaged rowboats, subject to the conditions specified below and for certain acclimatisation districts.

Bay of Islands Acclimatisation District.
Hobson Acclimatisation District.
Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatisation District.
Marlborough Acclimatisation District.
Southland Acclimatisation District.
Southern Lakes Acclimatisation District.
Tauranga Acclimatisation District—applicable only to the estuarine waters of Tauranga Harbour.
Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation District.
Wellington Acclimatisation District—applicable only for that remaining period of open season for the district, commencing on 6 May 1985.
Whangarei Acclimatisation District.
Game Not in Flight
Pursuant to section 22 of the Wildlife Act 1953 (as amended by the Wildlife Amendment Act 1983) the Minister of Internal Affairs approves within the acclimatisation districts named hereto, persons to shoot at, hunt or kill game of the family Anatidae (waterfowl) while not in flight, subject to the conditions specified below.

Conditions

These approvals shall not derogate from the principal conditions specified for each acclimatisation district under the Second Schedule which shall apply.

These approvals will expire at the end of the open season for game specified under the Second Schedule for each acclimatisation district.
NEW ZEALAND GAME AND JUNIOR GAME LICENCES AND LICENCE FEES
Pursuant to the Wildlife Regulations 1955, Amendment No. 9, the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby prescribes the classes of licence to hunt or kill game that may be issued by an Acclimatisation Society in New Zealand for the 1985 open season for game, and approves the licence fees set and payable in respect of each class and the conditions attached thereto.
Class: New Zealand Game Licence
Fee: Twenty five dollars ($25.00)
Conditions: A New Zealand Game Licence shall enable the holder to hunt or kill game in all acclimatisation districts of New Zealand. The holder of the licence shall be subject to the conditions and daily possession limits specified under the Second Schedule for the acclimatisation district in which the hunting or killing of game takes place.
Levies: North Island acclimatisation societies: a levy of $3.00 upon each licence issued is payable to the Council of North Island Acclimatisation Societies.
