WHEREAS the Ashburton County Council resolved by special order dated the 23rd day of November 1984 to constitute the Methven Community: And whereas section 60 (3) of the Local Government Act 1974 requires that the first general election of members of the Methven Community Council be held on a date fixed by the Ashburton County Council, being not later than 6 months after the 23rd day of November 1984 (being the date of the special order constituting the Methven Community): And whereas the Ashburton County Council has resolved that the said general election shall be held on the 16th day of March 1985: And whereas section 88 of the Local Government Act 1974 applies the Local Elections and Polls Act 1976 in respect of the election of members of a community council: And whereas sufficient provision is not made by or under the Local Elections and Polls Act 1976 or the Local Government Act 1974 for the conduct of general elections other than triennial general elections:
Now, therefore, pursuant to section 122 of the Local Elections and Polls Act 1976 and section 719 of the Local Government Act 1974, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.
ORDER
- Title and commencement—(1) This order may be cited as the Methven Community Council Election Validation Order 1985.
(2) This order shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette.

Election of members of Methven Community Council—The Local Elections and Polls Act 1976, the Local Government Act 1974, and the Local Government Enrolment Regulations 1983 shall, subject to any necessary modifications and to the provisions of clause 3 of this order, apply in respect of the holding, on the 16th day of March 1985, of the first general election of members of the Methven Community Council.

Validations—The following actions, in relation to the first general election of members of the Methven Community Council, are hereby validated:
(a) The actions of the principal administrative officer of the Ashburton County Council—
(i) In compiling an electoral roll for the Methven Community; and
(ii) In giving public notice on the 20th day of December 1984 that the electoral roll was open for inspection; and
(iii) In keeping the electoral roll open for public inspection at all reasonable times between the 21st day of December 1984 and the 25th day of January 1985; and
(iv) In closing objections to the electoral roll on the 25th day of January 1985; and
(v) In closing the electoral roll at 4 p.m. on the 15th day of February 1985; and
