State Forest Land Set Apart as a Dedicated Area—Slopedown Ecological Area—Southland Conservancy

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as inserted by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and amended by section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976), the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of the natural environment and native wildlife, and for scientific purposes, especially ecological purposes. The area so dedicated will be known as Slopedown Ecological Area.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT—CLUTHA AND SOUTHLAND COUNTIES

307 hectares, more or less, being part Run 620, situated in Blocks VI, VII and VIII, Slopedown Survey District.

497 hectares, more or less, being part Catlins State Forest Park, situated in Blocks VI, VII and VIII, Slopedown Survey District.

96 hectares, more or less, being part Lot 7, D.P. 3410, being part Section 5, Blocks VI, VII and VIII, Slopedown Survey District.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This area is dedicated as an ecological area for the preservation and protection of one of the last undisturbed examples of the transitional vegetation between the region's predominant forest—rimu-kamahi forest, to the mixed podocarp forest of the Southland plains and peripheral hill country.

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as inserted by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and amended by section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976), the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of the natural environment and native wildlife, and for scientific purposes, especially ecological purposes. The area so dedicated will be known as Maramataha Ecological Area.
