PURSUANT to sections 24 and 30 of the New Zealand Railways Corporation Act 1981 and section 52 of the Public Works Act 1981, the General Manager of the New Zealand Railways Corporation with the prior written consent of the Minister of Railways hereby declares that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart, subject to the Housing Act 1955, for State housing purposes.

Teaching Handwriting—Supplement to the Syllabus “Language in the Primary School—English”

———

PURSUANT to section 75 of the Education Act 1964, as amended by section 5 of the Education Amendment Act (No. 2) 1982, the Minister of Education hereby prescribes a supplement to the syllabus “Language in the Primary School—English 1961” prescribed by clause 5 of the syllabus notice made under the Education Act 1964 and published in the Gazette on 19 May 1983*.

This syllabus states the aim of teaching each child to write legibly, fluently, without strain and with sufficient speed for all practical purposes. Developed to its cursive form, the style of handwriting prescribed in the syllabus will satisfy the requirements of an adult hand. Development in handwriting continues beyond the primary school years and the system outlined in the syllabus is intended to provide the basis of a personal style in later years.

Copies of “Teaching Handwriting” will be issued to all schools. Additional copies may be obtained from Government Printing Office bookshops.
