(3) No licence holder person shall use in fishing for acclimatised fish or have under his control more than one assembled rod and running line at any one time.
(4) No licence holder shall fish for acclimatised fish unless he is within 15 metres of the rod he is using and has the rod under his own visual observation.
(5) No licence holder when fishing for acclimatised fish shall use—
(a) more than 2 lures or baits;
(b) any lead or weight attached below or so as to hang below any lure or bait;
(c) in any water in which only artificial fly fishing is permitted, any lead or weight other than the necessary weight of line, cast, and fly;
(d) any artificial fly having more than one hook or having a multiple hook;
(e) any bait or lure treated with any medical or chemical preparation other than—
(i) In the case of artificial fly, oil used solely to give buoyancy to such flies;
(ii) In the case of natural baits, a formalin or other preservative preparation;
(f) any wire, either plain or twisted, or any gimp trace or cast of a greater thickness than 0.82 mm;
(g) any wire or gimp trace or cast of a greater length than 1.8 metres;
(h) on or in conjunction with any fly, spoonbait, minnow, or other lure any single or other fixed multiple assembly or hooks any one hook of which has a greater distance than 13 mm between the point and the nearest part of the shank of the hook;
(i) any unsportsmanlike device or method.
(6) No licence holder when fishing for acclimatised fish shall—
(a) Fish from any unmoored boat in Lake McGregor, Lake Alexandrina, or Lake Middleton;
(b) Fish from a moving or moored boat in Lake Ohau within 200 m of the mouth of the Dobson River or within 200 m of the outlet of the lake or within 200 m of any person fishing from the shore of the lake;
(c) Fish from a moving or moored boat in the Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation District in any man-made lakes, including Lakes Benmore, Aviemore, and Waitaki, within 200m of the mouth of any river entering any of those lakes or within 200 m of any person fishing from the shore of any of those lakes;
(d) Tow or troll any lure from any mechanically propelled or mechanically drawn boat in the mouths of the Rangitata, Opihi, or Orari Rivers;
(e) Use in the Opihi River upstream from a designated line between Milford Reserve and Smith’s property (both ends of the line so designated being more particularly marked by poles on the river banks)—
(i) More than one lure or bait, except when fishing with artificial fly; or
(ii) More than one hook-unit (single or multiple), except when fishing with natural bait; or
(iii) Any hook of wire with a diameter larger than 1 mm, or with a gap greater than 9 mm.
(f) In the South Canterbury Acclimatisation District use any wire trace, or metal line, except when trolling in Lake Benmore;
(g) During the period commencing on the 1st day of January and ending with the 30th day of April, use in the Rangitata River, the Orari River, or their tributaries, more than one lure or bait when any weight is attached, or more than one hook (single or multiple), or any hook with a gap greater than 13 mm;
(h) Cast other than from the reel, or retrieve the line other than by winding the reel, in the Rangitata River, except when
(i) using an artificial fly or natural lure (except where this is otherwise prohibited);
(ii) fishing with a single hook feathered lure (the total weight of which must not exceed 28 grams) seaward of a line drawn between two poles situated on either side of the upstream limit of the estuarine area.
(7) Every person taking any quinnat salmon in the South Canterbury Acclimatisation District by any means other than by hooking it through the mouth shall immediately return it alive with as little injury as possible into the waters from which it was taken, and no person shall have in his possession any quinnat salmon taken in such district by any means other than by being hooked through the mouth, except for the purpose of returning it into those waters in accordance with this provision.

Prohibition on unauthorised fishing tackle, etc.—No licence holder shall, when fishing for acclimatised fish, use or have in his possession or under his control or convey or cause to be conveyed to the vicinity of any place where he is fishing or proposes to fish, any paravane or handline, any stroke-hauling or foulhooking gear, any gaff, or any spear.

Use of nets— Subject to clause 5(2) of this notice no licence holder shall use or cause to be used for taking acclimatised fish, a net of any description:
Provided that it shall be a defence for any person charged with a breach of this clause if he proves that he was netting for indigenous fish in accordance with the provisions of any regulations or notices in force in that behalf. -
Prohibition on possession or control of spear gun—(1) No licence holder shall, when taking any acclimatised fish or when in possession of any acclimatised fish, use or have in his possession or under his control any spear gun or any pointed missile (other than a bullet) which is propelled by means of any mechanical or explosive device.
(2) Where any person is charged with an offence under subclause (1) of this clause, it shall be a defence to the charge if the defendant proves that the spear gun or pointed missile in his possession or under his control was not used in taking the acclimatised fish.
(3) In this clause the term “explosive” has the same meaning as in the Explosives Act 1957. -
Authorised lures and baits—(1) Subject to subclauses (2) and (3) of this clause and to clause 5 (5) of this notice, no licence holder shall fish for acclimatised fish with any bait or lure other than artificial or natural fly, insect, crustacea, minnow, fish (excluding fish ova or any portion of a fish or any shellfish (mollusca)) or uncoloured bread dough.
(2) No licence holder when fishing for acclimatised fish shall—
(a) Use any crustacea or huhu grub except in that part of the Waihao River which lies between the Main North Road Bridge and the sea;
(b) Use with a natural minnow more than one lure or bait or any single or multiple hook with a gap larger than 9 mm;
(c) Use any lure or bait other than artificial fly in the Tengawai River or its tributaries, in the Ohape River or its tributaries, in Lake McGregor, in the Hakataramea River or its tributaries, in the Maerewhenua River or its tributaries, in Deep Stream (a tributary of the Waitaki River), or in any small high-country tarn;
(d) Use any lure or bait other than artificial fly, artificial minnow, or spoon in Lake Middleton or its tributaries, or in the Ahuriri River or its tributaries, or in the Otematata River or its tributaries, or in the Kakani River upstream from Forks Bridge, or in the Waihao River upstream from Forks Bridge, or in Lake Alexandrina.
(3) During the period commencing on the 1st day of January and ending with the 30th day of April in the same year (both days inclusive), in the Opihi River downstream from a designated line between Milford Reserve and Smith’s property (both ends of the line so designated being more particularly marked by poles on the river banks) no licence holder in fishing for acclimatised fish shall—
(a) use any lure or bait that does not fall in one of the following categories, that is, artificial fly, natural bait, or artificial minnow (that artificial minnow being a spinner, wobbler, finnic spoon, or other such type made solely of metal which in effect spins and wobbles when fished);
(b) use with any lure, not being natural bait, more than one hook-unit (single or multiple) or any hook with a gap greater than 13 mm or any hook which is rigidly attached to any lure or bait;
(c) use more than one lure or bait, except when using artificial fly;
(d) use any trace or cast of a greater length than 1m, except when fishing with artificial fly or natural bait;
(e) use any lure or bait the total weight of which exceeds 28 grams;
(f) fish by any method other than casting from and retrieving on a reel except when using artificial fly or natural bait.
- Daily limit bag—(1) No licence holder shall on any one day take or have in his possession more than 14 trout or salmon.
(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause no licence holder shall on any one day take or have in his possession more than—
(a) 4 salmon from any waters within the South Canterbury Acclimatisation District, except Lake Alexandrina and Lake McGregor;
(b) 10 trout from any waters within the South Canterbury Acclimatisation District, except Lake Alexandrina and Lake McGregor;
(c) 6 trout or salmon taken from Lake Alexandrina and Lake McGregor of which not more than 4 may be salmon;
(d) 10 acclimatised fish from any waters in the Waitaki Valley Acclimatisation District of which not more than 4 may be quinnat salmon taken from the Waitaki River and not more than 5 may be trout taken from Deep Stream, the Otematata River, or the Maerewhenua River.
(3) No licence holder shall continue to use a rod and running line to take trout or salmon on any day on which he has already taken a limit bag.
