Bulletins and other publications shall be available to Fellows at half price. The proceedings of the Society will be sent free of charge to all Fellows.
Section J. The Encouragement of Research
There was an addition made to this section as shown below:
JXI. The Thomson Medal and Fund.

There shall be a medal known as the Thomson Medal to commemorate the contributions made to science and the furtherance of science by George Malcolm Thomson and his son James Allan Thomson. It shall be awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions in the fields of the organisation, administration or application of science, or without restriction to the above, to the furtherance of science generally.

There shall be set up a fund, the interest from which shall meet the costs of an annual or periodic medal and of its engraving with the name of the recipient and of any other costs involved. A first charge upon the fund shall be the design and production of dies for the original medal.

The fund shall be vested in the Society. The Council shall have the control of the said monies and may invest the same upon any securities proper for trust monies. The Council at any meeting may resolve that any part of the unexpended revenue from the fund shall be added to the capital thereof.

So long as sufficient funds are retained to meet the purposes of the award, the Society may from time to time devote any surplus to the general purposes of the Society.

The award shall be made annually until 1990 and thereafter in alternate years, or at such intervals, not being more than 3 years, as the Council may from time to time decide, provided a candidate of sufficient merit is proposed. The award shall be made in March and shall be presented to the recipient at the annual meeting of the Society.

At the first meeting after the annual meeting the Council shall appoint a Thomson Medal Committee to recommend the award for the coming year, except that in the first year of the fund the committee should be appointed as soon as these rules are accepted by Council. The committee shall comprise three persons for a 3 year term with stepped terminating dates, one of whom shall be the President and one a member of Council, to select and recommend to Council the recipient of the medal.

There shall be published in each volume of the Proceedings a complete list of recipients of the Thomson Medal.

Commerce Act 1975
NOTICE is hereby given Decision No.138 of the Commerce Commission dated 1 August 1985. By this decision the Commission approved the merger or takeover proposal whereby Mair and Co. Limited may acquire 100 percent of the issued share capital of Astley Holdings Limited.
The full text of this decision is available for inspection at the Commission's offices, Sixth floor, 163 The Terrace, Wellington, P.O. Box 10-273. Copies may be purchased on application to the Commission.
