Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976

PURSUANT to the provisions of regulation 18 (3) of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976, the following specification is declared suitable for the purposes of the regulations:

BS 3456: 1979 Specification for safety of household and similar electrical appliances.

Declared suitable subject to the following complying with the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976:

(i) extra-low voltage or safety extra-low voltage requirements;
(ii) marking requirements;
(iii) capacitors connected within the appliance.

Any flexible cables and cords, plugs and sockets must comply with an appropriate recognised standard.

When a conflict of the electrical safety requirements between this standard and the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976 arises the wiring regulations shall take precedence.

This declaration rescinds the declaration of BS 3456: Section 2.8 as gazetted on 16 August 1979.

If this specification is superseded the declaration of this specification is rescinded. The provisions of this specification shall continue to be operative for a period of 1 year after the date on which the new specification takes effect.
