Commerce Act 1975

NOTICE is hereby given that by letter dated 6 July 1984, the Minister of Trade and Industry withdrew his earlier reference to the Commerce Commission of 17 May 1984, wherein he required the Commission to inquire into the advisability of removing cement from the Positive List of Controlled Goods and Services. In his latest letter the Minister indicated that the cement manufacturing companies had conveyed to him their wish to have the question of the possible removal of cement from price control deferred at present and that he had acceded to this request.

The Minister’s latest letter requires the Commission, in terms of section 104 of the Act, to inquire into and report to him (with reasons) on:

(a) The current price control methods of the Secretary of Trade and Industry in relation to the setting of maximum cement prices.

(b) The current pricing practices of the cement manufacturing industry in the distribution and sale of cement.

(c) Whether changes are considered necessary to current price control practices.

(d) Such other recommendations as the Commission thinks fit.

The Commission proposes to consider these issues in conjunction with its consideration of the applications made by the cement manufacturers for the approval of a proposed Collective Pricing Arrangement and a proposed Individual Resale Price Maintenance Arrangement, at a public hearing to commence at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, 27 November 1984, at the Commission’s Offices, Sixth Floor, 163 The Terrace, Wellington.
