60. WEIGHING

60.1 Weighing by Corporation

The Corporation may accept consignor's declared weights for rail freight charging purposes but reserves the right to check weigh. Where the weight is not declared and it is necessary for the Corporation to weigh the traffic for the purpose of calculating the railage charges, no charge will be made for weighing unless the consignor or consignee requests a weight certificate.

60.2 Weighing charges

The charges for each wagon weighed by the Corporation at the request of the consignor, consignee or their agents shall be as follows:

60.2.1 Goods weighed in railway wagons:

Four wheeled wagons ... $4.15 each
Bogie wagons ... 8.30 each

60.2.2 Multiple weight certificates: When more than one copy of a weight certificate is required by the same person or firm for goods weighed on the Corporation's wagon weighbridges a charge of $1.59 will be made for each certificate in addition to the first.

60.2.3 Other goods weighed: Goods weighed on cart weighbridges shall be charged $2.40 per vehicle. The charges for other goods weighed by the Corporation shall be as follows:

Wool, and sheep skins, in bales ... $1.60 per bale
Sheep skins in bundles ... 80 cents per bundle
All other goods (minimum charge 80 cents per package) ... $1.60 per 100 kilograms

60.3 Weigh at request of customer

60.3.1 Conditions: The Corporation will, at stations where weighing facilities exist, and when reasonably convenient, weigh goods at the special request of consignor or consignee. No liability shall rest on the Corporation for any omission to weigh any goods. Consignors should declare on the consignment note whether they require the goods weighed by the Corporation. The reweighing of goods in truck loads shall be at the option of the Corporation.

60.3.2 Right to decline to weigh: The Corporation may decline to supply weights.

60.3.3 Responsibility of Corporation: In no instance will the Corporation accept responsibility for or guarantee its weighing as between buyer and seller.

61. CRANAGE

61.1 Charges

Except as otherwise provided, cranage charges for the use of the Corporation's cranes, forklifts, and similar mechanical lifting devices shall be as follows:

Goods NOT received or to be dispatched by rail ... $27.80 per tonne. Minimum charge as for one tonne. Cost of labour and/or supervision additional

Goods (except timber) for which a loading or unloading charge is prescribed ... Under the provisions of clause 58.1
Timber, (all types) ... Under the provisions of clause 42.9
Containers and "Seafreighters" ... Under the provisions of clause 56.7
Goods, not otherwise specified;
Up to 1.5 tonnes per article ... Free
Exceeding 1.5 tonnes per article ... $5.56 per tonne (for unusual lifts see also clause 20.14.2)

61.2 Haulage of cranes

When the weight of the consignment to be handled is beyond the lifting capacity of a crane at a station and a crane is, at the request of the owner of the goods, hauled from another station, the haulage and hire charges shall be by special arrangement.

61.3 Hire of mobile cranes and forklifts

Where a Corporation mobile lifting appliance is hired for lifts outside the station yard, the following hire charges shall apply:β€”

61.3.1 Capacity up to three tonnes: $46.00 per hour including the wages of the crane driver only.

61.3.2 Capacity three to six tonnes: $55.00 per hour including the wages of the crane driver only.

61.3.3 Capacity over six tonnes: But not exceeding ten tonnes, $69.00 per hour including the wages of the crane driver only.

61.3.4 Period of hire: The hire charges shall accrue during the whole period the crane is absent from its headquarters and in every case shall be subject to a minimum hire charge for 30 minutes.

61.3.5 Absence from home station: The foregoing charges shall also apply for the time a mobile crane is absent from its home station performing lifts at other stations at the request of a consignor or consignee. Corporation Area Traffic Managers and Freight Terminal Managers will authorise the movement of cranes for this purpose.

61.3.6 Corporation operator only to be used: Mobile cranes on hire from the Corporation are not to be operated by any person other than the operator provided by the Corporation.
