Consent to Raising of Loans by Certain Local Authorities

PURSUANT to the Local Authorities Loans Act 1956, the undersigned Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, acting under powers delegated to the Secretary to the Treasury by the Minister of Finance, hereby consents to the borrowing by the local authorities, mentioned in the Schedule hereto, of the whole or any part of the respective amounts specified in that Schedule.

Post Office Savings Bank Term Deposit Account Interest Notice 1982

THE rate of interest applicable to money held in Post Office Savings Bank Term Deposit accounts shall be as set out below. This notice shall come into force on the 13th day of April 1982.

  1. Interest Rates—(1) The maximum rate of interest to be payable for any period of deposit commencing on or after the date of this notice shall be:

(2) The rate of interest payable on money withdrawn before the expiration of the period of deposit shall be:
(a) Under 30 days: Nil
(b) Thirty days but less than 3 years: the rate provided in clause 1 (1) as appropriate to the nearest completed term of investment less 2 percent per annum, except that where money is withdrawn because of the death of the depositor the full rate appropriate to the nearest completed term of investment may be payable.

  1. Revocation—The Post Office Savings Bank Term Deposit Interest Notice 1981* is hereby revoked.

  2. Transitional Provisions—Notwithstanding the revocation of the Post Office Savings Bank Term Deposit Account Interest Notice 1981 the rates of interest payable, and the conditions applying in respect of money which was deposited in term deposit accounts before the commencement of this notice shall be the same as specified in that notice until the expiry of the term of deposit.

  3. Explanatory Note—Clause 1(1) raises from 13 April 1982 the rate of interest payable on different amounts of money deposited in term deposit accounts for particular periods of deposit.
    Clause 1(2) fixes the rate of interest payable on money withdrawn before the expiration of the specified period of deposit.
    Clause 3 limits application of the increased rates to periods of deposit which commence on or after 13 April 1982.
