71.6.1 Reshipment within 36 hours: When the goods are received ex-ship into wagons and hauled to another ship for reshipment within 36 hours a haulage charge of $14.71 per tonne subject to a minimum charge of $73.58 per four wheeled wagon shall apply.

71.6.2 Reshipment after 36 hours or via shed: When the goods are received ex-ship into wagons and are not reshipped within 36 hours or are hauled to shed for storage and afterwards redelivered to ship, a transhipment charge of $13.39 per tonne subject to a minimum charge of $2.97 shall be made to cover handling in shed (or detention of wagons), and storage up to one week. In addition, charges totalling $29.42 per tonne shall be made for haulage from the ship and to the ship as specified in clause 72.4 subject to a minimum charge $147.12 per four wheeled wagon. After the expiry of one week, storage shall be charged at the rate ordinarily chargeable for storage at the station concerned.

71.7 Computation

71.7.1 Timber measurement: For the purposes of charging for reshipments, the weight of timber will be calculated as follows:

Hardwood ... ... 0.82 cubic metres to the tonne
All other timbers ... ... 1.00 cubic metres to the tonne

71.7.2 36 hour period: In computing the period of 36 hours referred to in clauses 71.6.1 and 71.6.2, the provisions of clause 20.15 regarding working hours and days shall apply.

71.7.3 Wool: Wool shall be computed at the rate of six bales not exceeding 205 kilograms each to the tonne.

71.7.4 Weight or measurement: The charges for ship’s goods, as defined in clause 68, shall be computed on weight or measurement at the option of the Corporation.

71.7.5 Bogie wagons: Bogie wagons shall be charged at twice the rate for four wheeled wagons.

72.1 Method of charging

Except where otherwise specified, the charges for the conveyance of goods in railway wagons in respect of the sea portion of the journey shall be computed on actual weight or cubic measurement (ships measurement) whichever charge is greater. The charge for the sea journey covers wharfage, harbour improvement rate, handling to and from vessel, and all other incidental charges usually associated with the shipment of goods.

72.2 Minimum wagon charge

Where a request is made for the exclusive use of a railway wagon, or the nature or dimensions of the goods are such that they preclude other goods from being loaded in the wagon then, unless otherwise specified, the following minimum wagon charges shall apply:

North to South South to North
Per four wheeled wagon $263.65 $230.67
Per bogie wagon $527.30 $461.33

72.3 Minimum bogie wagon load

Where, owing to the length of the goods, the use of a bogie wagon is required, sea charges shall be based on a minimum of 7.0 tonnes at the prescribed rate.

72.4 Check wagon

Where a check wagon is used in addition to any wagon conveying long length goods a sea charge of $248.52 shall be made for each four wheeled check wagon used.

72.5 Insulated wagon or container

Where an insulated wagon or Corporation owned insulated container is specially ordered and supplied for the conveyance of goods on the Cook Strait rail ferry service, the following minimum wagon loads shall apply in respect of the sea journey between Picton and Wellington.

72.6 Wharf terminal delivery

Goods shall not be accepted or delivered at wharf terminals.

72.7 Charges

72.7.1 Owner’s risk: All rates specified between clauses 72.7.2 and 72.13.2 inclusive are at “limited carrier’s risk” and will be reduced by two percent where consignors require that the consignment be carried at “owner’s risk”.
